#2 Portal Creek and #6 Graceful Princess will dispute the pace from the outset, which will aid the contenders coming from off the pace in the Go For Wand.

Go for Wand Contenders

#1 NONNA MADELINE -- Favorite will give her foes up to eight pounds in the affair, but she is still hard to look past for Pletcher. Candy Ride 4-year-old was third in a graded event on the course most recently, and she cuts back in distance here from the rail as well. Bay looms large with Johnny V. in the controls.

#2 PORTAL CREEK -- Fleet filly has won three of four since joining the Guerrero shedrow and makes her Aqueduct debut. Shanghai Bobby filly has sprinter speed that will translate well to the one-turn mile on Saturday, and her chances increase if she clears the field in the early going. Carmouche will be in the controls.

#3 SHARP STARR -- Munnings sophomore obliterated first-level allowance foes on the surface most recently in a 15-length tour-de-force for DePaz. Empire State-bred faces tons tougher in this spot, but she has never been better and wouldn’t be a major surprise to be in the mix late with something resembling her latest performance. Jose Ortiz riding adds to the appeal.

#4 OVERHEATED -- Handal trainee has raced on turf and all-weather in three straight, and she faces a huge class test on Saturday. Others appear much likelier.

#5 STAND FOR THE FLAG -- Top-three contender makes her first appearance since February in an initial try for conditioner Rob Atras. Super Saver 4-year-old has been second twice from three lifetime tries on the oval, and she is also training in solid fashion in advance of her return. Kentucky-bred will have Manny Franco riding.

#6 GRACEFUL PRINCESS -- ‘Other’ Pletcher pupil takes the blinkers off while drawing outside under Rosario. Blueblood daughter of Tapit has lacked consistency in her career, and it’s hard to back her for more than a minor award at this stage of her development.
