Noted and Quoted proves best in Chandelier

The juvenile miss and With Honors dueled throughout the 1 1/16-mile affair, which offered a guaranteed berth to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) to the winner. With Honors set the initial pace through fractions of :23.29, :47.10 and 1:11.81, but could never shake Noted and Quoted.
The Bob Baffert trainee took over in the lane and was game to hold off With Honors, who never stopped running. Noted and Quoted completed 8 1/2 furlongs in 1:44.88 over the fast main track and returned $16.80 as the 7-1 fifth choice.
With Honors was easily best of the rest, 3 3/4 lengths up on 5-2 favorite Zapperkat in third. It was another 1 1/4 lengths back to Champagne Room, who was followed under the wire by Lake Time, Blitzka, Nikki My Darling, 3-1 second favorite American Cleopatra, Demigoddess, Datz a Violation and Mistressofthenight.
Noted and Quoted is a stablemate of American Cleopatra, and finished fourth to her barnmate’s runner-up effort in the Del Mar Debutante (G1) last out. Prior to that, Noted and Quoted broke her maiden by 9 1/2 lengths in her second career start after a fourth-placing to open her career. Now 4-2-0-0, she’s thus far earned $239,580.
Bred in Florida by Gilbert G. Cambell, Noted and Quoted is by The Factor and out of the stakes-winning City Zip mare Silver Cub.

CHANDELIER QUOTES
Rafael Bejarano, jockey Noted and Quoted, winner: “I have to give Bob (Baffert) a lot of credit for this. I have ridden both (of Baffert’s fillies) entered in the Chandelier, (the other American Cleopatra) and I started off wanting to ride American Cleopatra because I thought (with her pedigree) she might be the better filly but I don’t think she really wants to go two turns. Baffert told me that he thought I might want to stay on Noted and Quoted because she was going to be prepared to run the mile and a sixteenth. And, he was right. American Cleopatra was right next to me but Stewart (Elliott on American Cleopatra) didn’t have enough horse and mine was the better horse today.”
Bob Baffert, trainer Noted and Quoted, winner: “When they turned for home, I thought, ‘That’s a good filly (With Honors) that ran second.’ I have a lot of respect for her. (Noted and Quoted) is a very slight filly. I don’t have to do a lot with her, but the fact that she’s already proved she can go two turns, that’s what we were trying to find out with her. I’m pretty proud of her effort, because she ran against a really great filly.”
Flavien Prat, jockey With Honors, second: “She ran great. I wish I was on the outside but she ran great. First time on with her. She was really brave to come back at the end and I felt that she was kind of tired but she just tried hard and did everything right.”
Keith Desormeaux, trainer With Honors, second: “I think it was a complete difference in style here. I concentrated on freshening this horse after her win at Del Mar (one-mile Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf Stakes on September 5), I didn’t drill her in the mornings. We came up a bit short today, but it puts her in a position to run a big race on Breeders’ Cup day and that’s the goal.
“She is going to run on dirt in the Breeders’ Cup unless I completely get overruled by the owners, the jockey, and the conglomerate that runs the show. She’s definitely going to run on dirt.
“If you watch the race again, you can see that she wasn’t straining to be up there (on the lead.) For her to set that kind of pace, and to do it under control is a beautiful thing to see and, with a race like that, we don’t have to worry.”
