Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes Oaklawn Park Saturday, March 8, 2014 Race 6, Post Time 4:39 pm ET

The majority of press at this time of year is on the Kentucky Derby trail, but the three-year-old fillies deserve top billing as well. This weekend the fillies take center stage at Oaklawn Park in the Grade 3 Honeybee Stakes. TARIS is the morning line favorite off of back-to-back wins to start her career at Aqueduct and Laurel Park. The daughter of Flatter has yet to be tested and no other filly has looked her in the eye, but that could change on the rise in class. Of course, of the other 10 runners in the field, only one has won a stakes and that was in a $66,000 overnight at Tampa Bay Downs. PLEASE EXPLAIN is that filly, winning the Suncoast by a widening six lengths. She was sired by Curlin, who won the Rebel and Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn in 2007. She will be running late and will need someone to go with the speedy TARIS. There are other fillies in the field with some front-running efforts, but none of them at the same early speed that TARIS has shown in her two races. EUPHROSYNE broke her maiden wire to wire then set the pace in the Martha Washington over the track before finishing third. That was the only the second time in her five-race career EUPHROSYNE was not bet down to favoritism. IRELAND was third in the Martha Washington, SUGAR SHOCK has won two straight, KISS MOON was dull as the favorite in the Martha Washington, but previously was undefeated in two starts, SPRINGSTEEN ROAD was an impressive maiden winner in his second start over the track and DREAM SPINNER won by over 13 lengths in her last start. This is one race to wager on the trifecta and superfecta because even if TARIS or PLEASE EXPLAIN win, the gimmicks are going to be huge.
