The Pick 3 of the Week comes from Gulfstream Park on Saturday and will be concluded by one of the two stakes races on the card.
Race 7 Wager
$1 Pick 3: 4,10 with 1,4,5,7 with 1,2,8 ($24)
Race 7 – Claiming
I’m hoping to survive the first leg with just two runners, as I feel that I have great coverage in the next two pieces of the play. Kathleen O’Connell’s #4 Frosted Punk has been consistent from four runs this season and moves to the lawn from the synthetic. The gray son of Frosted is kin to a trio of winners on the weeds and will welcome the surface change under Diego Herrera.
#10 David Pepperman takes a sizable class drop in the tilt and is the one to beat for Hurtak. The Bolt d’Oro colt graduated on the surface in February and rates a big chance with expected improvement beneath Meneses.
Race 8 – Maiden Special Weight
Seven sophomores will venture seven-eighths on the dirt in the middle leg of the play. I will use four in the wide-open tilt, including #1 Lost Money for Juan Arias. The Street Sense gelding had the misfortune of drawing in the 11 post going one mile on this surface last time and will fare much better from the fence today. He will save ground and run on in the lane beneath Herrera.
Jose D’Angelo’s #4 Project Pat has been runner-up in both runs to date and will improve on his second appearance of 2026. #5 Happy Mischief is bred to be a good one and has posted a nice string of morning drills in advance of the heat for strong debut conditioner George Weaver. #7 Municipal ran into Jackson Hole, Chief Wallabee, and Emerging Market in his three lifetime runs on the dirt and will appreciate the measure of class relief in this spot. The Saffie Joseph pupil goes from the grass to the main oval and figures to be a square price for a top barn.
Race 9 – Mr. Steele S.
A nice group of eight will run 1 1/16 miles in the co-feature that caps the wager. #1 Tank is a three-time stakes winner on the course with a lot of speed from the rail. The Carlos David pupil was a smart stakes winner at this venue in his latest showing and wouldn’t be a surprise beneath Camacho.
Chilean import #2 Gran Oriente is two-for-five since coming to the states and comes off a sharp allowance victory over a good group at Santa Anita most recently. Now in the hands of Saffie Joseph, the Group 1 winner will have Micah Husbands in the silks for his local bow. #8 Horsepower has been first or second in 14 of 20 career tries and fell short by a neck in the Henry Clark S. at Laurel Park last time out. The Joe Orseno charge makes a lot of sense from the outside post beneath Eddie Gonzalez.
