The $1 million Haskell Stakes is the centerpiece of a massive day of racing at Monmouth Park on Saturday, but the undercard is full of excellent wagering opportunities throughout the day, as well. I will take aim at an all-stakes Pick 3 prior to the marquee event in hopes of padding my bankroll in advance of the big one.
Race 9 Wager
- $1 Pick 3: 5,6,7 with 3 with all ($36)
Race 9 – Wolf Hill S.
The 5 1/2-furlong dash on the lawn for the boys has nine on board. #5 Fore Harp (10-1) bagged the King T. Leatherbury S. at Laurel Park three back and can be dangerous on his best day for conditioner Butch Reid. The bay will flash speed from the break.
Top pick #6 Isivunguvungu (5-2) is a multiple Group 1 victor making his first run since going to the desert in the spring. The globetrotter will be difficult to deny with his best performance under Samuel Marin.
Defending champ #7 Nothing Better (3-1) has been a high-level turf dasher for many seasons and has done some of his best work on the course with five wins locally. Duarte-trained chestnut will be forcing the pace from the break in hopes of defending his title in the dash.
