Pick 4 Betting Preview: Fair Grounds Opening Day - November 22, 2013

November 22nd, 2013

Friday is opening day at Fair Grounds in New Orleans and the nine-race card looks like a good one to get involved. The late pick-4 starts in race six with 34 total betting interests in the sequence; let's take a look.

The first leg is a claiming race for non-winners of two lifetime with early success the 3-1 morning line favorite. The son of Badge of Silver is making his second start off a layoff after finishing second, beaten a half-length at Churchill Downs three weeks ago. He is likely to be on the pace along with Pegasus Flyer and Smokin' Hot. A fast pace sets the race up for Melo Mason and E.M. Maximus.

Well's Gold is 2-1 for race seven, but the front-runner has been doing his racing around two turns so tihs five and one-half furlong race may be too sharp for him. Instead, Mr. Fuzzybottom gets the call and may be a single for many. The five-year-old gelding makes his second start off a layoff and has four wins with five seconds and one third in 11 career starts at Fair Grounds. Phat Day and Webster are the two long shot plays.

Race eight is the first in the sequence around two turns and Batter Up is looking to knock one out of the park. The 5-2 morning line favorite has five wins in 17 career starts, but has only one win in his last seven and is one-for-five since being claimed by his current connections. Ha Long Bay, Four Joes, Wajir On Me, Tarmac and Strathallen are all worth including on the ticket.

The finale is a maiden claimer for two-year-old fillies and contention runs deep. My Hip Hop Honey and My Dogs are Barkin, coupled in the wagering, are the morning line favorite with My Hip Hop Honey the one to focus on. The Oklahoma-bred is dropping out of maiden special weight races and will be breaking from the rail. P T's Jewel and Mysia's Castle also drop out of straight maiden races while Smoky Romance, Livin La Vida Lily and Shoot Me Another run for connections that know how to win in Nawlins.

First post on Friday at Fair Grounds is 4:00 pm ET with race six scheduled to go off at 8:15.
