Pick 4 of the Week: Colonial Downs Saturday, July 25

The pair of black-type tilts at Colonial Downs on Saturday will be the middle part of the Pick 4 of the Week:

Race 6 Wager

• 50-cent Pick 4: 2,3,5,10 with 1,3,4 with 7 with 2,3,5,6,7,9,11 ($42)

Race 6 – Claiming 

An overflow field of 14 fillies and mares has been entered for the 1 1/16-mile claiming affair to kick things off. I’ll use four to commence the wager, including #2 Reading Time. The Joe Orseno pupil failed as the favorite last time, but she is the inside pace of the race and will move forward in her third run off the short layoff. 

#3 Stay In Tune is the likely one to beat for Magee. The Hard Spun three-year-old has won a pair of grassy races in succession prior to finishing an even fourth against better last time, and the stalker will be well placed turning for home in the affair. The Lacey Gaudet-trained #10 Lady Embrace will make a first run for this barn and has been mostly consistent in advance of this tilt. The Real Solution filly will come on late with Johan Rosado in the silks. #5 Set Ablaze beat this kind on the course last time and is an obvious contender right back beneath Sofia Vives. 

Race 7 – Yorktown S. 

A trio of runners looks best to me in this nine-furlong event on the dirt. Todd Pletcher’s #1 Vibe was thrown to the wolves in the Met Mile (G1) for his stakes debut most recently and is a much better fit against this cast. The fleet four-year-old gets the rail for his two-turn debut and will likely be the one to catch with Jorge Ruiz on board. 

#3 Barbadian Runner is the one to beat for Henry Walters. The gelded son of Barbados had a busy 2025 with 12 starts, but the four-year-old has shown no signs of wear and tear with three strong runs to commence this campaign. Stout late runner will be formidable with his best. #4 Inveigled has run some big races in his lifetime, including a win over Knightsbridge in 2025, and he was sharp in his first for Delacour off the shelf last time. Paco Lopez will guide the Enticed gelding. 

Race 8 – Love Sign S. 

Saffie Joseph will saddle the speedy #7 Anakarina for the initial time in her first appearance on the surface, and while I fear that she will be overbet in a competitive cast, the in-form filly will be my single in the dash. The Vekoma four-year-old is going well since April and also has a tactical edge on most of her foes with her natural early foot. Paco Lopez will be in the saddle. 

Race 9 – Maiden Claiming

A total of 11 fillies will run 1 1/16 miles on the sod to close out the card in a race lacking class. #2 Yeah Glo, #3 Sunday Lyrics, #5 Hot Cocoa, top choice #6 Hay Grace Brennan, #7 La Devita, #9 Bree Cola, and #11 Cool Hard Breeze will all make the ticket.
