Pick 4 of the Week: Colonial Downs Saturday, June 27

June 26th, 2026

Updated: June 26th, 2026

A pair of grassy black-type tilts for registered Virginia-bred runners will highlight a nice afternoon of action at Colonial Downs on Saturday, and the co-features will be a part of the Pick 4 of the Week.

Race 6 Wager

  • 50-cent Pick 4: 1,3,9,10 with 1,7 with 5,6,7 with 2,8,9 ($36)

Race 6 – Claiming

Fillies and mares will dash six panels on the lawn to commence the sequence. #1 Chasing Sunsets (3-1) stayed on for a decent fourth in an allowance on the grass going long last time and will cut back in distance in the heat. The Authentic sophomore will have Paco Lopez up.

Also to be included in a tricky event will be #3 Levigata (5-2)#9 Wunderkind (8-1), and #10 Pearl of Pearl (8-1)

Race 7 – Brookmeade S.

Saffie Joseph’s #7 Day to Day (7-5) is not the most dependable two-turn runner in the world, but the daughter of McKinzie has faced some really good ones in advance of her local return, and she will be dangerous in the second leg. The sophomore was a debut heroine on the oval last campaign, and her best will make her tough to defeat with Paco Lopez taking the reins.

#1 Late Night Call (5-1) is interesting in her turf debut for Niall Saville. The four-year-old daughter of Audible has been running with open stakes foes on the main oval in her last three, and I think that she might like the lawn being kin to a trio of graduates on the green. Jareth Loveberry has the call.

Race 8 – Edward P. Evans S.

Seven will vie in the 1 1/16-mile tilt led by top pick #5 War Humor (5-2). Trained by Robert Bailes, the Mosler gelding has been performing well with open allowance foes in advance of the move to a route race, and the bay will be difficult to knock off if he can endure the trip under Jevian Toledo.

#7 Ray of Sunshine (6-1) has never run on the sod, but the chestnut is bred to like the surface change, and his form is superb coming into the event. The Golden Years gelding is the pace of the race and will be up top early beneath regular pilot Latchman. #6 Oviatt Class (8-1) is worth including as a late runner at a fair price with Malcolm Franklin in the irons.

Race 9 – Optional Claiming

A full and well-matched cast will run 1 1/16 miles on the sod in the closing piece. #8 Papa Golf (8-1) was a sharp allowance winner on the Gulfstream lawn two back and last seen just missing in a synthetic effort at that venue in a solid allowance field. The Hard Spun gelding has been consistently good and could be the one beneath Toledo.

Mark Casse’s in-form #2 Sing Sing (8-1) and Mike Trombetta’s #9 Uncle’s Gold (5-2) will also make the ticket in the deep finale.
