Player Quick Pick: Santa Anita for 6/13/14

June 13th, 2014

Santa Anita 4 | 7:33 pm ET Cal-Bred Maiden Special Weight for 2yo going 5f

The second leg of the pick 6 carryover at Santa Anita on Friday is a state-bred maiden special weight race for two-year-olds and with six of the eight making their first career start, some extra handicapping looks to be in order. TRIBAL ECHO and FULL BIRD COLONEL are the two with experience, finishing fourth and fifth in the same race on May 30. While they are not without a shot, there are a couple of debut runners that will be tough. GOYO drew the rail and has the shortest route to victory. His May 30 work looks very good on paper and his dam, Chasing Wind, won a stakes race at Prairie Meadows in her fourth career start and won her career debut by three lengths. Chasing Wind has had five of her six foals win multiple races including two that won their debut. One of those was a full to GOYO, who won for the same connections in 2009. ATTA’ BOY WOODY runs for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer and that makes him an automatic use in the pick 6 wager. If he is bet down in the doubles from race three, he may even be a single. His dam has had five foals to race, all are winners. GENERAL DIXIE is worth a look in the exotics. He is bred to win early, his sire won his second career start and was a Grade 1 winner at two and his dam won her debut, and drew well in post three. Maybe not a win candidate, but he can pick up the pieces late.
