6 Years Strong

Woodbine 6| 3:33 pm ET G2 Play the King Stakes for 3 yo going 7f (T)
MOST LIKELY WINNER: 4-Something Extra
If consistency is, in fact, the key, you could dub this 6 year old gelding “Mr. Consistency”. In his last 17 races, the only two times he didn’t hit the board was a 4th place finish in April of 2012, and his only “dud” race since 2010 last July here at Woodbine, when he finished 7th. In 25 starts, he has been 1st, 2nd, or 3rd 20 times, including 9-of-the-last-10. He’s coming off a win in the G2 Highlander where he atoned for last year’s “dud” in that same race. He’s in top form, and is your most likely winner. Play on top in exotics, and in multi-race bets.
VALUE HORSE: 6-Awesome Eclipse
If Something Extra is the model of consistency, Awesome Eclipse can best be described as “Mr. Versatile”. This horse can set the pace, press, and also close. He set the pace three races back, and was caught near the end of the race, finishing second to Lockout (who also races here in this race). Two back, he pressed the pace, going four-wide, then five wide, rallied, and won under hand. And last out, he closed with a late rally, but it wasn’t good enough. He’s 20-1 on the morning line, and should either press or stalk today, as others will be more want to take the early lead. Look for Awesome Eclipse to be closing fast near the wire, getting a piece at a nice price. Play in all exotics and multi-race bets.
OTHERS TO CONSIDER: 7-Excaper and 9-Kaigun
Two wins and a place in three career starts at this distance puts this race right in Excaper’s wheelhouse. His recent form is strong, and after a revolving-door of jockeys, Wilson is up again. She had ridden Excaper in his first nine starts, and returns here in his 19th. He has done well in G2 company. A contender.
Kaigun raced in four straight G1 races, and is cutting back from a mile and three eighths last out. Casse has a positive (yet unspectacular) ROI in route-to-sprint races, and Kaigun is the class of the field. Put him in the mix in exotic bets, and if you go deep in multi-race bets.
