Preakness Field: What You Need to Know

Racing can be filled with all sorts of tricky angles and PPs can be daunting... here TwinSpires takes a bit of the guesswork out of it for you with a quick snapshot of each runner in the Preakness field:

-Dynamic Impact: Fast improving colt is looking for his 3rd straight win and should only improve with longer distances.

-General A Rod: Got a rough trip in the Derby and - though he’s not winning the big ones – really hadn’t run a bad race to that point.

-California Chrome: Derby winner is versatile pace-wise and is sitting on a 5-race / 26-combined-lengths win margin.

-Ring Weekend: Was a Derby week scratch with a fever but bounced out of it well; speed has to settle and get a clean trip.

-Bayern: Loses the blinkers after being DQd from the Derby Trial win and has to prove he wants to go further than a mile.

-Ria Antonia: Girl among the boys; owns one win outright - a 6-length drubbing of a short field of sprinters last year on the Woodbine PolyTrack, but she loses the blinkers on the move to Amoss and gets Borel aboard.

-Kid Cruz: Hasn’t done anything wrong since the maiden win and is turning into quite the claim for his connections; won both preps for this and should get enough pace to run at.

-Social Inclusion: Won his first two starts by a combined 17.5-lengths before running a huge effort with a rough trip as the post time favorite in the Wood Memorial.

-Pablo Del Monte: drew into the Derby field, but the connections decided to wait the extra two weeks; seems to always run his race and may have needed the Blue Grass off the freshening last out.

-Ride On Curlin: Forgetting rough-tripped Derby effort: he was the most consistent horse of the Triple Crown Trail – even if he didn’t actually win a big race; would have to keep it together mentally and get a clean trip.
