Journalism, second as the favorite in the Kentucky Derby (G1), tops a nine-horse field entered in Saturday's 150th Preakness (G1) at Pimlico.
Installed as the 8-5 favorite in the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, the Michael McCarthy trainee will break from post 2 with regular pilot Umberto Rispoli.
Sandman, the seventh-placer from the Derby, rates as the 4-1 second choice. The only other Derby alum, American Promise (16th), is listed as a 15-1 outsider.
New shooters comprise most of the field, including River Thames and British invader Heart of Honor, who both qualified for the Derby but preferred the timing of the Preakness.
Unbeaten Goal Oriented makes his stakes debut for the all-time leading trainer in Preakness history, Bob Baffert. Gosger and Clever Again are also lightly-raced hopefuls, while Pay Billy brings the local angle.
