Race Preview: California Derby - Golden Gate, January 18, 2014

January 17th, 2014

Golden Gate Fields California Derby Saturday, January 18, 2014 Race 7, Post Time 6:45 pm ET

ROYAL BANKER is sitting on a win third start in the U.S.; however, he will have his hands full with ENTERPRISING and EXIT STAGE LEFT. ROYAL BANKER won one of two races in his native England before coming to the states in November. The Eoin Harty-trained colt was third in the Grade 3 Generous at Hollywood Park then second, beaten a half length by ENTERPRISING, in the Eddie Logan. Both of those race were on the turf, but he should transfer form to the all-weather surface at Golden Gate. ENTERPRISING has won two of his three career starts and is getting better and better with each start. The Glen Hill Farm color bearer will be ridden for the first time by Aaron Gryder. EXIT STAGE LEFT is undefeated in two starts, both stake races over the track. Russell Baze keeps the mount for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer and is a threat to the shippers. If there is one horse to steal the race, it's HARBAUGH, which would be fitting on the weekend the 49ers, coached by Jim Harbaugh, play the Seattle Seahawks for the right to go to the big game.
