Race 9
Post Time: 4:33 pm ET
SUMMER FRONT enters the Grade 2 Ft. Lauderdale Stakes as the horse to beat. The War Front-colt was second by a nose in a Grade 2 at Hollywood Park in his last start and, on the turf, is a Grade 3 winner, winning seven of his 12 grass starts. The only question will be trip. NIKKI’S SANDCASTLE is a horse for course on the Gulfstream turf with three wins, one second and two thirds in nine career starts over the surface. He was fourth in this race last year, beaten just over a length by MUCHO MAS MACHO, who is also entered on Saturday in the Ft. Lauderdale. Between August 2012 and January 2013, Mucho Mas Macho won three races in five starts, but is winless in five starts since. SLUMBER is the long shot play for trainer Bill Mott and owner Juddmonte Farms. The British-bred son of Cacique has won half of his last six starts, but that goes back to a race in Newmarket on October 29, 2011. The distance of the Ft. Lauderdale may be too short; however, but he could be a nice play to round out the trifecta or superfecta.
