Rosecroft Offers Solid Tuesday Card

On the same night that millions of Americans headed to the polls to cast their votes for President of the United States and other lesser offices, thousands of harness racing fans on site and across the land were treated to a solid card at Rosecroft Raceway in the shadow of the nations Capitol.

In the opening race on the card, Rebel Soldier (Kim Vincent) gained command soon after the start and led throughout to capture a non-winners of $2500 last five starts class for aged pacers. Owned, bred and trained by Steve Warrington of Sanabelle Island fame, Rebel Soldier notched his fifth win in 29 starts this year and now sports a 17-6-1 slate and $96,000 bankroll from 71 lifetime outings.

Two races later on the card, PL Hoofhearted (Frank Milby) lived up to his role as the even-money choice in another non-winners of $2500 last five starts class to score by four lengths in 1:52.3. A five-year-old Mach Three gelding trained by Walter Birney, Jr., for owner Maud Birney, P L Hoofhearted notched his fourth win from 24 starts this year and now owns 19 wins and $133,000 banked from 96 lifetime outings.

Several races later in a tough non-winners of $6000 last five starts class for older pacers, Concert Artist (William Carter) rallied from far off the pace and widest of all on the far turn and overhauled pacesetter Arpeggio Hanover to score in 1:51.4. A five-year-old Artistic Fella gelding owned and trained by Brian Tomlinson, Concert Artist closed willingly late to notch his fifth win from 29 starts this year.

Fittingly, Concert Artist was the Rosecroft Raceway track managements choice as fall meet champion, while runner-up Arpeggio Hanover was tabbed by the U.S. Harness Writers Association Mid-Atlantic Chapters choice as the spring meet champ.

Then one race later on the card, Hide Me Away (Jonathan Roberts) benefited from a pocket trip behind dueling leaders Hickory Aloha and Diamondkeeper - who battled by the half in 53.2 - then angled out of the pocket at the top of the lane and prevailed easily in 1:52.2. A seven-year-old Dragon Again gelding owned and trained by Arty Foster, Jr., Rock Me Away posted his second straight rally and third win in 34 seasonal outings. He now owns a 15-28-28 slate and $230,000 bankroll from 161 career tries.
