Santa Anita - $10,000 Claimer, May 16, 2014

$10,000 Claimer for 3&Up going 6.5f
Wide open field of claimers going six and one-half furlongs and there doesn't appear to be a lot of speed so going to take a chance and bet on SENATOR BOB from the Javier Sierra barn. SENATOR BOB won a race four starts back when in the care of Jeff Bonde, but has yet to finish in the top three since. He should be sitting just off of ROSKO, who looks to be the speed of the speed, but the distance may do him in. UNSTOPPER TOPPER goes first off-the-claim for a trainer making his first start of 2014, but there does appear to be some back form that would make him a player. He was setting the pace in route races so he could be sitting in the garden spot just off the above two. CARBONITE may be ranked too low off his disappointing sixth place finish last month. Two starts back the eight-year-old gelding was part of a blistering pace early at this same level, but could not hold late and was out-nosed at the wire. Should several other horses decide to show speed and create a fast pace, HALF DOME DUDE will be the one picking up the pieces late. This is a definite spread race in any pick-3 or pick-4 wager.
