Can Pulpit's Express Claim Victory Again?

March 20th, 2014

Race 1: Post time 4:00 pm ET Race 3: Post time 5:01 pm ET

Thursday's pick-6 carryover at Santa Anita starts in race 3, a $40,000 claiming race for four-year-olds and upward going one mile on the main track.

Race 3: Not an easy way to kick off the pick-6 so going to land on 4-1 shot BIG KICK for trainer Mike Machowsky. BIG KICK is making his second start in So Cal after beginning his career at five different tracks on the east coast. The race should unfold at a pretty fast clip, which helps HARLINGTON NIGHT, who is dropping in class. PULPIT'S EXPRESS is the morning line favorite and last time he was running for a tag, he won by three and one-quarter lengths. That; however, was on the turf for his previous trainer.

Race 4: RYDERROO cross the line first last start, but was disqualified and place second. She comes back at the state-bred level and should be bet down off her 5-2 morning line. BETTY BING BING and TICKLE AGAIN drop from maiden special weight races and will eventually break their maiden.

Race 5: HUGH KNEW, GISELE AT FONZ'S and LAMAZONE are tough to separate in this high level maiden claimer over the hillside turf course. These three should be on all pick-6 tickets.

Race 6: WAR ACADEMY has been bet down to favoritism in three of his four starts and is likely to be the favorite on Thursday. He has not been out since being eased last April in the Arkansas Derby and his best race was around two turns. HEIR OF STORM may try to steal the race up front and looks to be the speed of the speed. He will take them as far as he can go.

Race 7: One more chance for RANGI, who failed as the post-time favorite last out in a similar race. The British-bred gelding can press or set the pace from the outside and get the jump on the closers. He may face pressure from several in here so consider MONUMENT and the Euro-import DON MARCO.

Race 8: EUROCLYDON and CONSECRATE were early scratches so the top pick for the finale will be ALICE ROADTRAIN, the second time starter from the Peter Miller barn. ALICE ROADTRAIN is likely to show more speed than she did in her debut and gets a positive ride switch to Victor Espinoza. DIVINE JOSEPHINE and PARADA are also making their second career start and will improve off their debuts.
