Sensational Year for Quarter Horse Breeder Bobby D. Cox
Texas breeder Bobby D. Cox is having a tremendous year in Quarter Horse racing.
His graded stakes winners are spanning the country this year with Duponte winning the $1,083,480 Heritage Place Futurity (G1) at Remington Park as well as the $278,000 Harrah's Futurity at Louisiana Downs. On June 19, another Cox juvenile, Chazaq defeated a very tough field in the $1,070,000 Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1). Cox also bred Marfilous, a gray filly by Ivory James who was the fastest qualifier to the $271, 950 Firecracker Futurity (G2) at Delta Downs.

Followers of the Quarter Horse industry would hardly be surprised at the success this year of the noted Texas breeder. He has been honored by the AQHA as champion breeder and owner twice and is ranked third, behind Ed Allred and Vessels Stallion Farm on the AQHA all-time leading breeders. He leads the division this year with 88 wins and $1.9 million in purses.
Cox struck a deal with Duponte's owner Kristin Paredes, to purchase a share of the the top money earning Quarter Horse in North America. Duponte has won $578,519 this year and will make his next start in trials for the $3 million All American Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs.
He is a successful businessman and highly respected in the racing and breeding world. Cox is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and has served as director and is a member of the Texas Quarter Horse Association. Cox was named Owner of the Year in 2004 by the American Quarter Horse Association and was inducted in 2008 into the Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame. At its recent annual awards ceremony, Cox was also named as the Texas Quarter Horse Association 2010 Accredited Texas Breeder of the Year for 2009 ;a year where he was a national top five breeder with seven stakes wins. So far, 2016 looks like it could match or even surpass the banner summer of 2004. In June, Cox’s All About Ease won the Ruidoso Futurity. In July of 2004, Cox's Brimmerton won the Rainbow Derby and followed it up by winning the prestigious All American Derby in Ruidoso, New Mexico in September of 2004.
Duponte and Chazaq are the top-two ranked horses in the AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National 2-Year-Old Poll. It would be no surprise for Cox to pick up another AQHA Champion breeder title if the remainder of 2016 comes close to matching the first six months of the year.
