SOUTHLAND Preview and recap - Sunday, August 30
Welcome to a Sunday afternoon of exciting greyhound racing at Southland as there are 18 entertaining races on tap for our viewing and wagering pleasure. MoneyMaker Mike's picks for this past week have been greyhounds that finished in last place last time out but had a decent chance of coming right back with a really big effort while returning a nice profit to you. Greyhounds that are coming off last place finishes are often overlooked when handicapping a race so there will be times when you can really get nice odds on some of them. Over the past week, there were 15 different selections that I chose and listed below are how these picks turned out. I have also listed 3 selections for today's program to end up the week. On 8/23 - the three selections finished 4th, 5th & 8th.
On 8/24 - the three selections finished 8th, 4th & 4th.
On 8/26 - the three selections finished 3rd, 4th & 3rd.
On 8/27 - the three selections finished 6th, 7th & 4th.
On 8/28 - the three selections finished 2nd, 8th & 5th.
Out of the 15 selections, there were 8 top four finishes.
There were no selections that won, 1 that finished 2nd, 2 that finished 3rd and 5 that finished 4th. There were 2 that finished 5th, 1 that finished 6th, 1 that finished 7th and 3 that finished 8th.
Grade wise - AA - finishes were 5th & 8th A - finishes were 3rd & 4th B - finishes were 4th, 5th & 7th C - finishes were 4th, 4th & 8th D - finishes were 3rd & 6th M - finishes were 2nd, 4th & 8th
A few interesting notes are that in Grade AA the best the picks did was one that finished 5th though in Grade A both picks ran better with a 3rd and 4th place effort. While the picks did have a 50% top four success average, I was disappointed in the fact that only one pick resulted in a quiniela and only three picks hit the trifecta. What does stand out, at least in this very short and informal study, greyhounds that were coming off a last place finish did better in trifecta and superfecta plays then in winning or quiniela plays.
For Sunday's picks, and the last of this study, I will use the same criteria as above, greyhounds who finished 8th in their last race.
Race 1 - Grade M - 583 yards - WW KUNG FU CRANE - 5 box
Race 7 - Grade D - 583 yards - TR'S WISHBONE - 1 box
Race10- Grade AA - 583 yards - FLYING TAOS - 3 box
