SOUTHLAND Preview - Friday evening, July 24

July 23rd, 2015

The weekend gets started with a full slate of 18 exciting and entertaining races on Friday and that includes four top grade contests. There are two TAA and two AA races on tap showcasing some of the top and talented greyhounds at Southland and it should be one heck of a program especially with these races as they go paw to paw and battle from start to finish for the win. Listed below are MoneyMaker Mike's picks in each of the 4 contests. Thanks for reading and good luck to everyone.

Race 1 - 334 yards - Grade TAA - Right from the start we get a top grade race over the short Southland course with solid greyhounds competing and I like the (3) Oshkosh Fonzie to win a close one with the (6) Loop A and the (4) Mega Wikiup battling hard down the stretch. The (1) WW's Showpiece is certainly a threat for the superfecta so I'll include him on the ticket.

Pick - 3-6-4-1

Race 10 - 583 yards - Grade AA - My pick here is the (2) Flying Fired Up who is the recent 2015 Southland Derby Winner and loves the inside. I also like (3) In My Memory who gives 110% effort each time out as evidenced by 28 top four finishes in 33 races which includes 19 top two finishes. I will use the rail running (1) Mega High Noon and the (7) Gv Black Satin to complete the play.

Pick - 2-3-1-7

Race 15 - 660 yards - Grade AA - My choice here is the late running (2) Shiloh who should be picking them off one by one down the backstretch all the way to the finish line. I like the (8) Volando Solefull to vie for the early lead along with the (1) Leslie Shay as these two early speed and inside running greyhounds go paw to paw in the early going. I won't overlook the (6) Keeper Pocket and will have him on the ticket in case he hits the lid which he's shown he is capable of doing from time to time.

Pick - 2-8-1-6

Race 18 - 820 yards - Grade TAA - In this always entertaining super marathon race, I'm going with the (3) Flying Scoobydoo to catch the rail running (1) Ajn Lebron James down the stretch. Both of these greyhounds are solid runners and it won't surprise me to see the (1) hang on for the win if he gets a big enough lead. I do like the (3) though to make a strong late move and catch the leader. Completing the ticket I will use the (5) KF's Newsmaker and the (4) WW's Fast Burnin for tri and superfecta plays.

Pick 3-1-5-4

As for MoneyMaker Mike's longshot of the evening I'm going with the (6) Kiowa Policeman in the 7th race, a Grade D contest over the 583 yard course. He's 15 to 1 on the morning line and dropping from Grade C so I'll give him a shot here for hopefully a nice price.
