SOUTHLAND Preview - Saturday matinee, March 7

March 6th, 2015

Welcome to Southland for a Saturday of matinee racing which included 18 exciting and entertaining greyhound races on tap. Normally we pick the evening card to handicap but this afternoon's program included several good wagering opportunities so I went with the matinee card as the better choice for putting some cash in our pockets. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 2 - Grade B - 583 yard course - I like the (8) FLYING WALKWAY in this one as he's well posted for his wide running style having drawn the eight box. I know he's a recent transfer here to Southland from Naples but it seems he's taken a liking to the track as he's already moved up to Grade B in just 5 starts and he's already gotten 2 wins and a 2nd place finish on the books so worthy of at least a shot here. Tons of early speed/good rush will give him the opportunity to get down to the turn in great shape in which to challenge for the win. I'll play the (8) with the 1/4/5/6 in the quinielas as well as playing the 8-all-5-all, 8-all-all-5 in the dime superfecta.

Race 5 - Grade A - 583 yards - Going with the (1) JK WISH here as he's drawn the one box which will give him the edge due to his rail running style and I think he's got a very good chance to get the lead right out of the box which only helps his chances. He may fade some down the stretch but I believe he's got enough in his tank to hang on for the win. It's a tough and competitive field but I'll key the (1) with the 3/5/6 in quinielas and add the 4/8 on the third line in the tri's (1-356-34568) & (356-1-34568).

Race 8 - Grade C - 660 yards - The pick here is the (8) WW'S EXCEL who has been running both hard and consistent as evidenced by her last 6 races where she's accumulated a win, 2 seconds, a third and two fourth place efforts over this same distance course. She has good early speed and I can see her getting the lead right out of the box, avoiding early trouble on the turn and then setting the pace to the wire. I will play the (8) with the 1/2/7 in the quinielas.

Race 1 is the MoneyMaker pick of the matinee, a Grade A contest over the 583 yard course and the choice is the (4) KL'S ELLIOT. I like his chances here because he's a wide runner with good early speed and is dropping back to A grade after being in AA grade for several races. He has won both a Grade AA and a Grade A race in two of his last six starts and he may be overlooked here and give a good return on your investment should he win. I will play him mostly in quinielas with the 2/7/8.
