Best Bets and Quick Picks
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 2: $15,000 Maiden Claiming (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 2:41 p.m. ET)
#2 It’stheonlywaytogo (2-1) is dropping in class after finishing third, third, second, and fourth (fifth via disqualification) in four starts against maiden special weight competition at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
Trainer Anthony Granitz wins at a 33% rate with horses tackling the maiden claiming ranks for the first time, so descending the class ladder might be all It’stheonlywaytogo needs to secure victory. It helps that she’ll be guided by apprentice jockey Victor Lara, who rides with a five-pound weight allowance.
A win bet is in order, along with a small exacta using first-time starter #4 One Thirsty Lover (10-1) for second place.
Selections
- #2 It’stheonlywaytogo (2-1)
- #4 One Thirsty Lover (10-1)
- #5 Tapit Charm (5-1)
Wagers
- $25 to win on #2 It’stheonlywaytogo
- $5 Exacta: 2 with 4
Total: $30
Presque Isle Downs: Race 2: Maiden Special Weight (six furlongs on Tapeta, 3:57 p.m. ET)
This maiden sprint for Pennsylvania-breds has come up relatively light on paper, which should allow #2 Warrior’s Mission (5-2) to graduate.
Warrior’s Mission might be 0-for-12, but he’s finished second in his last two starts sprinting at this track and class level, and he appears fast enough to graduate on Tuesday.
Let’s place a win bet on Warrior’s Mission and single him to start a daily double.
Selections
- #2 Warrior’s Mission (5-2)
- #5 Cosmic Connection (9-2)
- #1 Big Red Toby (4-1)
Wagers
- $20 to win on #2 Warrior’s Mission
- $10 Double: 2 with 4
Total: $30
Presque Isle Downs: Race 3: $62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming (6 1/2 furlongs on Tapeta, 4:24 p.m. ET)
#4 Dhabab (4-1) has the potential to spring a mild upset. He’s competed primarily on turf as of late and exits a third-place finish in an $80,000 allowance at Kentucky Downs, but back in 2024 he made a trip to Presque Isle Downs and trounced a 6 1/2-furlong $40,000 allowance optional claimer on Tapeta by 4 1/4 lengths.
Trainer Edward Vaughan wins at a 20% rate with horses switching from turf to synthetic, so we’re willing to bet Dhabab will fire a big shot in his return to the Presque Isle Tapeta.
At 4-1, a win bet is in order. We’ll also play an exacta using #1 Heavy Pour (8-5) for second place.
Selections
- #4 Dhabab (4-1)
- #1 Heavy Pour (8-5)
- #5 Petcoff (5-2)
Wagers
- $15 to win on #4 Dhabab
- $5 Exacta: 4 with 1
Total: $20
Carryover Watch
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 6: $4,437 Super High 5 carryover (4:45 p.m. ET)
If you want to win a share of Tuesday’s $4,437 carryover in the “Grand High 5” Super High 5 at Horseshoe Indianapolis, you’ll be able to assemble competitive tickets on a much lower budget than usual.
Unlike the many Super High 5 wagers that carry a $1 minimum bet amount, the minimum for the Grand High 5 is a mere 10 cents. A ticket that costs $720 at a $1 minimum can be played for only $72 at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
Tuesday’s carryover is up for grabs in Race 6, a $12,500 claimer for three-year-olds and older horses racing 1 1/16 miles on turf. Brisnet Speed ratings suggest #3 Elevated Game (7-2) is the horse to beat.
Wager
- 10-cent Super High 5: 3 with 2,5,8 with 1,2,5,8,9 with 1,2,4,5,8,9 with ALL ($28.80)
Elevated Game has been running well against toughest competition at Horseshoe Indianapolis. On Aug. 22, he finished second in a one-mile $20,000 starter optional claimer after leading in midstretch. And on Sept. 10, he carved out the pace in a 1 1/16-mile contest at the same class level before weakening in the final furlong to finish third.
Those efforts yielded Brisnet Speed ratings of 85 and 82. None of the other horses entered in Race 6 have posted a rating higher than 81 in their last four starts apiece, so if Elevated Game produces a similar effort while dropping in class for a $12,500 claimer, he can secure the victory. We recommend keying him on top in the Super High 5.
Underneath, we’ll emphasize #5 Born Flashy (6-1), #8 Missionary Mary (5-1), and #2 Brit’s Wit (4-1), who were separated by only 1 1/4 lengths when finishing second, third, and fourth in a recent one-mile $12,500 claimer at Horseshoe Indianapolis. The winner, On Palm Sunday, flattered the form by returning to win his next start in a $10,000 starter optional claimer.
We’ll gradually widen our tickets as we descend through the minor placings, adding runners like #1 Monumentaljustice (5-1), #9 Woodcock Flight (15-1), and #4 Adios Ashwood (8-1) before hitting the “ALL” button for fifth place.
Good luck!
