SOUTHLAND Preview - Sunday matinee, January 25

January 25th, 2015

Welcome to another Sunday matinee of entertaining greyhound racing at Southland Park. On tap this afternoon is 18 exciting races and I've selected several that stood out as good opportunities for wagering and I'm hoping we put some nice cash payoffs in our pockets with some solid plays. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 5 - Here is a Grade B contest over the 583 yard course and the pick here is the (8) CBJ TREAT as the key. She was the beaten favorite less than 2 weeks ago in Grade A and while she likes the inside, I think she has a shot at being among the frontrunners with a good clean break here and even though there is a good bit of early speed among the competition, I'm willing to give her a shot in this one to hit the lid, avoid trouble and clear the turn and I'll take my chances from there.

Race 8 - This is a Grade A contest over the 583 yard course and the choice here is the (6) CBJ BUTTERFINGER. She is 39 out of 49 over the past season in the top four and has 15 wins to go along with that very consistent record. Given this is her first time out since dropping from AA to A in grade, I look for her to take charge early and be the one to catch. A side note on her, she was the beaten favorite in 5 straight Grade AA starts so with the drop in class, hopefully she gets back to her winning form.

Race 16- This is the MoneyMaker Mike play of the program, a Grade A race over the 660 yard course, I'm going with the (3) KLUTCH to be the surprise of the matinee. He's dropped in class, having been running AA grade and he's also back to the shorter 660 course instead of the 703 course that he's been competing in. He's an inside runner and I'm hoping he gets the lead right out of the box and holds it till the wire for the win.

Race 17 - Here is a Grade TAA contest over the 660 yard course and the solid pick here is the (3) PJ REFINED. She's a young greyhound who keeps getting better and better with each time out. She has 38 starts in her short career and has 24 top four finishes in them including 11 wins. She's won both on the short course as well as the longer 660 distance and capable of hitting the lid and going box to wire.

Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
