Spot Plays for Woodbine Stakes on Nov. 21

November 19th, 2020

A total of four stakes events, three of the graded variety, will headline a big day of racing at Woodbine on Saturday.

Bessarabian (G2)

An excellent field of eight fillies and mares will travel seven panels on the Tapeta. Lightly raced #2 Boardroom has been very impressive to date for Josie Carroll. The expensive Commissioner filly is 3-for-4 lifetime and exits an impressive allowance win on the course when giving up ground every step of the way. Sophomore faces a tall task against a superb field, but I think she is worth a play at an expected fair number.

Kennedy Road (G2)

Living-legend #7 Pink Lloyd draws outside of the cast of seven in the 6-furlong dash. The Robert Tiller trainee is unbeaten this campaign, and it’s impossible for me to go against the 26-time local winner.

I will play a straight exacta over #1 Souper Stonehenge in search of value. Gelded son of Speightstown comes off a sharp allowance triumph going 5 1/2 furlongs on the surface, and I also think that he will improve making his third outing of the season.

Ontario Derby (G3)

A field of eight 3-year-olds will go to post in the 9-furlong contest on the main surface. I like the progression shown by #4 Lucky Curlin since arriving north of the border for Casse. Chestnut colt has finished runner-up in two straight stakes outings, one on the green and one on the main strip, and he shows a pair of bullet morning moves in the interim, as well. The homebred has the tactical speed to get first run on the closing types under Husbands.

Ontario Damsel S.

A small, but talented, field of six sophomore fillies will vie in the $150,000 affair. #3 Afleet Katherine gets the nod in the tough cast for Attard. Bay daughter of Afleet Alex was second in both the Woodbine Oaks and Bison City S. on the oval, prior to showing little on the lawn in the Wonder Where S. last time out. Ontario-bred has positional speed combined with a nice turn of foot, and she will relish the return to the All-Weather on Saturday.
