Stakes Spot Plays for Colonial Downs Saturday, July 11

A quartet of black-type races will be featured on a fine Saturday card at Colonial Downs. 

Race 6 – Miss Disco S. 

Sophomore fillies will dash seven-eighths of a mile on the dirt in the first stakes test of the afternoon. #1 Slewperstitus (9-5) comes off a big allowance win at Laurel in her second run of the season and gets the nod for trainer Robert Bailes. The dark bay daughter of Great Notion ran two big races on the course as a two-year-old and seems poised to pick up her second stakes score with Jevian Toledo taking the reins. 

Race 7 – Star de Naskra S. 

Three-year-old males will go postward in the seven-furlong heat in what appears to be a mostly wide-open dash. #3 Top Manipulator (4-1) was close to a strong early pace in the deep Chick Lang S. on the Preakness undercard in his last appearance and makes a lot of sense with the class relief today. The Timothy Keefe pupil, who won his first trio of races in 2026, will be close from the break with Forest Boyce riding the son of Blofeld. 

Race 8 – Glenn Petty S. 

Fillies and mares will dash 5 1/2 furlongs on the sod, and I will take a shot with the Jamie Ness-trained #4 Bang Bang Fury (10-1) in her first attempt on the sod. The Violence five-year-old is in a spot lacking a standout, and she has shown improvement since being claimed two back. The mare has a pair of turf-winning siblings, and the price is right with good turf pilot Samuel Marin on board. 

Race 9 – Punch Line S.

Males will jaunt 5 1/2 panels on the green in the final stakes event of the day. The morning-line choice will be tough to knock off, but his stablemate #6 Crossingthechannel (5-1) might have the best chance for the upset in the group. The Michael Trombetta charge has never raced on the turf, but the son of Omaha Beach is the pace of the race, and he also has a trio of turf-winning siblings, as well. If the fleet sophomore opens up early, as is expected, then he could be tough to reel in late under the guidance of Angel Rodriguez.
