Stakes spot plays for Pimlico on June 13

A handful of stakes races will headline a fine Sunday card at Pimlico Race Course.
Race 4 -- Searching S.
The 1 1/2-mile turf test for fillies and mares attracted a very good cast in a well-matched field. I lost with #3 Beautiful Lover in her season debut at Tampa Bay Downs most recently, but I expect the Arch mare to move forward in a big way on Sunday. The Christophe Clement trainee makes her second start of the season, and the move to 12 furlongs seems ideal for the Florida-bred. She will be a better price in this affair, too.
Race 6 -- Ben’s Cat S.
The five-furlong turf dash appears to be a perfect comeback spot for Mike Trombetta’s #4 Matta. The lightly-raced five-year-old had displayed a lot of ability when sprinting on the green in the past, and the gelding has trained forwardly in anticipation of this engagement as well. Son of Take Charge Indy will fire off the shelf under Pimentel.
Race 8 -- Prince George’s County S.
#11 English Bee is another horse that I will come back to after faltering in his latest venture. The Graham Motion trainee had traffic issues when finishing 2 1/2 lengths back in the Dinner Party S. (G2) here in his season debut, and a forward move is expected second time off the layoff. The son of English Channel is a winner on the course and figures to receive a much better trip from a wide post. Chestnut five-year-old could be moving best of all late with Carrasco in the final stages against the deep field.
Race 9 -- Shine Again S.
Unbeaten standout #1 Chub Wagon is the clear one to beat in the field and is a must use in most wagers. But I am intrigued by #4 Dontletsweetfoolya for Gaudet. The bay daughter of Stay Thirsty has led at the first and second calls in each of her last seven tilts, and with her two main pace foes drawn inside of the four-year-old, who figures to receive the best trip in the field up front. Two-time stakes heroine signaled her readiness for the dash with a bullet half-mile move at Delaware on Tuesday.
Race 10 -- Stormy Blues S.
The finale will pit sophomore fillies sprinting five panels on the lawn with a full field set to go postward. #7 Prodigy Doll is a longshot to close out the card with appeal to me at a big price. Ben Colebrook trainee has never run on the lawn, but she does have a turf-winning sibling, and the filly is also three-for-three when leading at the first call. Kentucky-bred will be dangerous at a big number if she catches a flier out of the gate in her first grassy endeavor.
