Taking Prat into account at Santa Anita on Feb. 19

Flavien Prat was on fire last week, winning 11-of-28 starts (39%) including a four-bagger on Sunday. The 28-year-old Frenchman moved to the top of the jockey standings, and Prat has taken six mounts on Friday’s nine-race program.

Here are some thoughts on the card:

Race 1 -- 3:30 p.m. ET

Prat picks up the assignment on #3 Du Jour, who switches back to turf for Bob Baffert following a decent third in his second start. The Temple City colt finished second when making his debut on turf, and he led in the stretch last time before being overhauled by Roman Centurian, who came back to record a neck second in the Robert B. Lewis S. (G3). Du Jour is from the same female family of Ghostzapper and City Zip.

Race 3 -- 4:35 p.m. ET

#9 Luvluv is eligible to graduate on the rider switch to Prat. The four-year-old was fourth in a couple of decent turf maiden events at Santa Anita last year, with multiple top three finishers from both races coming back to win their next start, and the John Sadler-trained gelding returned from a freshening with a troubled effort last time. In tight early, Luvluv offered a good middle move before being compromised by traffic in the stretch, closing with good energy once clear. He should appreciate the outside draw Friday.

Race 6 -- 6:12 p.m. ET

Prat doesn’t have a mount, and the $16,000 claimer for non-winners of two lifetime appears wide-open. #6 Mongolian Sunrise is eligible to show speed in a race lacking pace, and the five-year-old mare rates a look as the longest price on the morning line (12-1). She broke her maiden going the mile distance at Santa Anita last February, romping by 8 3/4 lengths in front-running style, and Juan Rodriguez may have sharpened her speed in recent months, with Mongolian Sunrise placing in a trio of about half-mile sprints at Los Alamitos.
