Taking the Indiana Grand Challenge on Wednesday, June 21

June 21st, 2017

While I was focused on the Pick 5 carryover at Fort Erie on Tuesday afternoon, another portion of horse racing Twitter was abuzz with Indiana Grand discussion.

Scott Shapiro, Brisnet.com's intrepid California-based handicapper who does Daily Selections full-card analysis with best bets for both Santa Anita Park and Indiana Grand, lamented the results at the Shelbyville, Indiana, oval, and Marcus Hersh and Erin Thomson both agreed. I took this as a call to arms to try to solve the Wedenesday puzzle and present my ABC grid for the 8 Thoroughbred races on the 10-race card below.

Pick 4s are on races 2 & 5, making race 5 very important since it both ends the early Pick 4 and begins the late Pick 4. Thankfully, it's one of my strongest opinions. Yes, I have 3 "A" tabs among just 8 expected starters, but those are literally the only three horses I want in the race. If one of them loses then I'm not going to beat the day at Indiana Grand. In the early Pick 4, I'll play my As and Bs going into race 5, which is a $90 ticket. In the late Pick 4, I'll play the As to get live to a bunch in the 8th AND all the As and Bs in races 5, 6, & 7 with only the 4 As in the last.

Good luck everyone!
