Thanksgiving Day spot plays for Fair Grounds Nov. 26

Fair Grounds kicks off what promises to be an exciting 2020-21 winter meet on Thanksgiving Day with an attractive 10-race card.

Hopefully, forecasted showers can hold off in spots, thus allowing for the scheduled grass races to remain on. Higher end races dominate the back half of the card, which will be our focus here.

Race 6

This two-turn maiden for juveniles features #2 PROXY (4-1), a Godolphin homebred son of Tapit who narrowly missed over a mile in his debut at Monmouth Park last month. Out of multiple Grade 1 winner Panty Raid, who was adept on any surface, Proxy is a half-brother to Micheline, who captured the Dueling Grounds Oaks at Kentucky Downs in September. This colt should continue to get better, especially as distances increase.

Race 7

A return to New Orleans should suit #7 LOGICAL MYTH (6-1) just fine as he owns a 3-for-4 mark over the local turf. His lone setback, as a longshot in an N1X allowance last February, is entirely forgivable as he endured an awful trip early on. The race proved a tough one, too, with the winner and runner-up both scoring in their respective next stars. This gelding has improved considerably in his last couple starts for Sharp, who claimed him for $40,000 in May, including a surprise second at this level at Keeneland last time.

Race 8

If anywhere close to his best, the rest could have trouble running down #4 BOBBY'S WICKED ONE (4-1) in his title defense of the $125,000 Thanksgiving Classic. He won this by three lengths a year ago and is 5-for-6 overall on the Fair Grounds main track. Meltdowns last spring in the Count Fleet Sprint (G3) and Aristides are hard to make sense of, but hopefully questions surrounding those no-shows will help boost his price well above the 7-10 on offer last season.

Race 9

With a couple comeback races under her belt in Kentucky this fall, #7 AUDREY'S TIME (12-1) might be rounding into her best form after being off for six months during the spring and summer. The Uncle Mo broke her maiden over this course in February and was beaten only four lengths in a stakes next out despite lacking running room in the stretch. The Neil Pessin trainee has posted a couple bullet works at Churchill this month.
