This Week in the BARN

March 9th, 2017

We had a fun week of shows on the Radio Network this week including speaking with a couple of trainers who have horses on the Derby trail. On Wednesdays show trainer Ian Wilkes joined us to talk about McCraken who recently missed a couple days of training and will have to skip the Tampa Bay Derby. Ian said McCraken came out of a work with some discomfort and he said "I'm thinking much more to the future than to just one race, so we didn't want to push him."

Trainer Mark Hennig has won prestigious races all across the country like the Santa Anita Derby and Arlington Million just to name a few. But this weekend he's giving his 3 year old runner Beasley a shot in the Tampa Bay Derby. The lightly raced runner "will be getting the acid test this weekend to see if he belongs on the Derby trail." Hennig also talked about his career in which he was part of the D. Wayne Lukas machine of the 1980s and early 1990s. You can listen to the interview with Mark Hennig.

On Tuesday's show Billy Koch of Little Red Feather racing joined the program to talk about Midnight Storm who will be the favorite in the Santa Anita Handicap. Although he's been a turf horse much of his career, his last two wins on dirt have made people take notice of what a versatile and talented runner he is. Koch talked all about his horse on the BARN.
