Three Perfect as Seldom Told Dominates
Round two of the 2016 $50,000 Orange Park Derby took place on Friday evening and three of the six winners from round number 1 had a very good night again in round 2. Kk Whitezin and Kiss This both keep the mojo going strong to stay undefeated, but it was All-American Seldom Told that made the biggest statement on the card.
Breaking from the 2 box in the 13th race on the card, Seldom Told took instant command of this race and would not let up until the finish line. Pushing away early on, his 2.5 length margin would increase with every step he took around the oval. Stretching out down the backside on the lead, he hit the far turn 4 lengths clear of the rest, and turn that into a 7-length margin at the finish line. Crossing in 37.20 seconds, he has half a second faster than any other winner on the card. Next best was Lee Trinity, followed by Pat C Dashboard and Rtr Marie Laveau. Truly the greyhound to beat in this stakes event, his 6th win in a row, and his 13th win in his last 14 starts, was something special.
Another DQ Williams greyhound in this race is also undefeated, and even though she might not have been as impressive as he kennelmate, Kiss This put up a gem in the 10th race on the card. Keeping with the trend, I know breaking from DQ is strange but it’s a real thing, she bombed out of the starting box and stole away 3 lengths early on the rest of the field. Breezing on the front end, she maintained her edge throughout the backside, through the far turn, and all the way to the wire. Crossing 3 lengths ahead of the rest in a respectable time of 37.66 seconds. Applying pressure the whole way was Pat C Fracking, and Boc’s Luigi won the distance show battle with Atascocita Warm late.
The other undefeated winner bucked the trend and stole away the win in the final few steps of her race. Kk Whitezin, from the Raines Kennel, is the only returning finalist to the race, and she also made the finals of the 2016 bestbet Derby as well. This girl always shows up when the big lights come on and the second round was not an exception to that rule. Getting up just in time, her head victory in 38.22 seconds, was one heck of a race. Tempo Rock settled for place, C Ville Magic took the easy show, and early leader So Typical survived for the final spot in the super.
