Track Update: Santa Anita for June 15, 2021

With a stakes-laden closing week, it's a good time to check back in at Santa Anita and get ready to bet those last few classy cards before the action moves away for the summer.

Jockeys

It's no secret Flavien Prat is romping in the jockey standings; his 119 wins have him 34 clear of second-place Juan Hernandez. Prat's 28% win rate (119-for-422) is best of any rider with more than one mount, and his 67% in-the-money rate tops all with more than two. 

This means excellent prices on other top riders who bettors aren't gravitating towards. Though Umberto Rispoli is second in turf wins (49 to Prat's 65) and second in turf sprint wins (20 to Prat's 25), Rispoli has a +16% ROI in all turf races and a +54% ROI in one-turn turf sprints.

Riders to watch at a price on dirt have been a little tougher to find. But, if Mike Smith sees fit to ride, take heed: he is 7-for-20 (35%) on the main this meet, with a +57% ROI. 

Trainers

Trainer Phil D'Amato has shone this meet at Santa Anita: his 46 wins (46-for-189, 24%) lead the meet, four wins clear of Peter Miller and six past Bob Baffert. Bettors have loved D'Amato, too: he has a +9% flat-bet ROI on the meet. Most of those prices have come on dirt. His main-track horses are 13-for-42 (31%) winners with a +65% ROI, and you can bet both his sprinters and routers with confidence.

On the lawn, John Sadler has been having a strong meet both in terms of wins and wagering returns. His 20 turf wins (20-for-111, 18%) have him fourth among all trainers in turf wins, and his +39% ROI stands out as best among any trainer with over 10 turf wins. The only other trainer above that win threshold with a positive ROI on the grass is Michael McCarthy, who is 11-for-70 (16%) on the lawn and has a +14% ROI over those starts.
