Tuesday cards offer youth and experience
At two standardbred tracks on opposite sides of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge on Tuesday night, both Harrington Raceway in Delaware and Rosecroft Raceway in Maryland will offer cards that highlight opposing age groups.
Tuesday evening Harrington will host the first round of Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund eliminations for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings, with the top eight returning for the $100,000 DSBF final on the Wednesday, October 21 Delaware Showcase card and another eight poised for the $20,000 consolation that night.
Just before the midway point of the Tuesday card at Harrington, eight freshman pacing colts and geldings will go postward in the first of three $20,000 opening round DSBF divisions. Three of the juveniles will garner much of the attention.
Hail To The Master (Art Stafford, Jr.) has won twice in three outings for owner-trainer Dorothy Ann Connor and drew post four for this division and should rule as the 4-5 favorite. The Rustler Hanover gelding posted a 53-1 shocker in his career debut at Harrah's Philadelphia and then won his most recent outing over the local strip in 1:57 as the 9-5 second choice despite a long, first over journey.
But two other freshmen boys will look to upset him. Power To Perform (Tony Morgan) has only won once in six starts for trainer Kyle Moore, but he did win a Maryland Standardbred Race Fund event at Ocean Downs and then was third behind Hail To The Master two starts back here. Cut The Beach (George Dennis) has yet to hit the board in four tries but has shown plenty of ability in recent qualifiers.
Three races later on the card in the second DSBF opener for this group, much of attention will be on the two horses that drew inside - Seboomook Dreamer (Allan Davis) and All Artist (George Dennis).
All Artist overcame post seven to post a 42-1 shocker in his second start on Sep. 17 and will be a much shorter price this evening from post two. But railbound Seboomook Dreamer is clearly the one to beat after settling for second as the 4-5 choice in All Artist in their 9/17 encounter. The Wayne Givens trainee may still earn the favorite's role.
Then two races later in the third division of the DSBF opener for freshmen pacing colts & geldings, railbound Steller City (Dan Rawlings) looms the one to beat for trainer Josh Green. He was third as the 3-2 choice from post eight in his most recent outing. Sizz Matty (George Dennis) overcame an early break to post a 19-1 upset in his previous start for trainer Brian Wright and owner-breeder Willard Hall.
That same evening at Rosecroft it will be the older pacers in the spotlight in several overnight races. Most of the upper tier events are from the midway point to the finale.
In fact, the sixth race on the card is a solid, non-winners of $5000 last five starts conditioned event. Rebel Soldier (Steve Warrington) returns off a long break and a pair of qualifiers, but Caviart Tyler (Jonathan Roberts) looks poised for his first win of the fall meet after a first over journey last week in the slop against similar.

Fancy Colt (Frank Milby) won last week's edition and now gets post seven on the far outside, while Hi Sir (Russell Foster), who won the opening week feature and was second last week, will leave from post six.
Toms Titan (Roberts) will look to rebound from a dull, fourth-place effort last week after being second in the opener. Shady Breeze (Roger Plante, Jr.) just missed against winners over rivals on 9/22 and missed last week. Smart Rokker (Brian Burton) rallied to get third in this event last week, while Cabbie's Delight steps up off a win against the winners over group.
