Best Bets and Quick Picks

Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 5: Maiden Special Weight (five furlongs on turf, 4:14 p.m. ET)

#1 Dolce Vino (9-2) has spent three of his four starts competing on dirt, including a couple of off-the-turf contests. The only time he got to race on grass was in a tough maiden special weight at Kentucky Downs, tiring after tracking a quick pace to finish 11th by eight lengths.

Dolce Vino should find the competition easier at Horseshoe Indianapolis, where trainer Mike Maker has compiled a terrific 14-for-44 (32%) record this meet. Throw in the presence of jockey Fernando De La Cruz (a 43% winner teaming up with Maker over the last two months), and Dolce Vino rates as a compelling win contender.

Let’s bet Dolce Vino to win and key him over #9 Great Kerry Lee (4-1) in an exacta.

Selections

  • #1 Dolce Vino (9-2)
  • #9 Great Kerry Lee (4-1)
  • #10 Lady Blast (12-1)

Wagers

  • $24 to win on #1 Dolce Vino
  • $6 Exacta: 1 with 9
    Total: $30

Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 6: Maiden Special Weight (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 4:45 p.m. ET)

The experienced runners in this field don’t appear particularly strong, so let’s try backing first-time starter #5 Rebel Sky (10-1) at a price.

From a pedigree perspective, there’s quite a bit to like about Rebel Sky. He’s a son of Enticed, who won the Kentucky Jockey Club (G2) as a juvenile. His dam is Talk Softly, who has foaled four winners from four starters.

Rebel Sky is trained by Genaro Garcia, who has compiled a respectable 5-for-39 (13%) record debuting juveniles in dirt sprints at Horseshoe Indianapolis since 2023. A sharp half-mile workout from the Horseshoe Indianapolis starting gate in :48 2/5 last week cements Rebel Sky as a logical win contender.

Selections

  • #5 Rebel Sky (10-1)
  • #3 Trust the Word (6-1)
  • #1 Sparring Moon (8-1)

Wagers

  • $25 to win on #5 Rebel Sky

Assiniboia Downs: Race 2: Maiden Special Weight (six furlongs on dirt, 9:00 p.m. ET)

#5 Bizness Tycoon (4-1) is an unraced juvenile from the barn of hot trainer Michael Nault, a 35% winner at Assiniboia Downs this meet and a 40% winner with first-time starters.

These powerful win percentages suggest Bizness Tycoon is a threat to win on debut. It helps that he’ll be ridden by hot jockey Antonio Whitehall, a 21% winner at Assiniboia Downs this meet.

Let’s bet Bizness Tycoon to win, then play him over stakes-placed #9 Areunotentertained (1-1) in an exacta.

Selections

  • #5 Bizness Tycoon (4-1)
  • #9 Areunotentertained (1-1)
  • #7 Hotrod Hanson (25-1)

Wagers

  • $15 to win on #5 Bizness Tycoon
  • $15 Exacta: 5 with 9
    Total: $30

Good luck!
