Handicapper J. Keeler Johnson shares horses to bet in a pair of non-jackpot carryovers on Saturday at Oaklawn Park and Turfway Park.
Oaklawn Park: Race 6: $7,972 Pick 6 carryover (3:27 p.m. ET)
The Saturday card at Oaklawn Park is highlighted by three stakes and a $7,972 carryover in the $1 Classix Pick 6.
Two of the stakes are part of the Pick 6 sequence. The first is Race 9, the six-furlong Commodore for horses who have never won a stakes (other than those for state-breds). The field has come up deep, and you can make a solid win case for several contenders.
#5 Concrete Glory (9-5) is the morning-line favorite. He’s 17-for-39 lifetime and enters off back-to-back wins, including a triumph in a $100,000 allowance optional claimer at Saratoga. But his recent Brisnet Speed ratings don’t give him much of an edge against the Commodore field. Rivals like #2 Second I D (5-1) and #3 Echo Again (5-2) are fast enough to challenge. Echo Again in particular is a logical contender after winning an $80,000 allowance optional claimer sprinting six furlongs at Churchill Downs.
The other stakes in the Pick 6 is Race 10, the Smarty Jones for three-year-old racing 1 1/16 miles. The Road to the Kentucky Derby qualifier has drawn a competitive field. #1 Universe (3-1) has cracked the trifecta in three straight graded stakes and is an obvious win threat while dropping in class, but our top choice is #3 Boca Beach Club (4-1), a sprinter stretching out in distance.
Four wins on opening day for @JockeyRamonVazq and this time with DIRTY RICH in the Advent S.! 🤩

Boca Beach Club won his debut at Hawthorne with a fast finish before stepping up in class for the Advent S. at Oaklawn. There, he rallied nicely to finish second behind the promising Dirty Rich. Boca Beach Club earned a 91 Brisnet Speed rating in the Advent that fits well against the Smarty Jones field, so be sure to include him on your tickets. His pedigree suggests he’ll handle stretching out over 1 1/16 miles.
Turfway Park: Race 9: $17,372 Super High 5 carryover (9:55 p.m. ET)
After going unsolved for two days in a row, the $1 Super High 5 at Turfway Park features a double carryover worth $17,372 for Saturday’s card.
To win a share, you’ll have to solve Race 8, a $7,500 maiden claimer for three-year-old fillies sprinting 6 1/2 furlongs on Tapeta. The field looks highly competitive, but we rank #7 Zafyre (7-2) as the horse to beat.
Zafyre is dropping in class out of tougher races. Last time out, she set the pace in a one-mile $15,000 maiden claimer at Turfway before tiring to finish fourth. Two starts back, in a $20,000 maiden claimer sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs over the Horseshoe Indianapolis dirt, Zafyre closed from far back to finish third, beaten only 1 3/4 lengths.
Dropping down in class and distances for her second start at Turfway should put Zafyre in contention under red-hot jockey Walter Rodriguez, a 28% winner at Turfway since December. We suggest keying Zafyre on top of your Super High 5 tickets.
Good luck!
