One of the most enticing carryovers available to chase on Sunday is the $38,706 prize pool in the $1 Pick 6 at Aqueduct.
Aqueduct: Race 4: $38,706 Pick 6 carryover (2:36 p.m. ET)
The Pick 6 is packed with competitive fields. Before scratches, and including main-track-only entrants, the sequence contains 55 horses (averaging about 9.2 per race) and 512,512 possible outcomes. But assuming the turf races stay on grass, the seven main-track-only horses will scratch, and that alone will reduce the number of possible outcomes to consider down to 222,264.
We can lower the number even further—to 31,752—by singling #5 Emerald Ember (9-5) in Race 4, the opening leg of the sequence.
Best single: Race 4: #5 Emerald Ember (9-5)
Race 4 is a $55,000 maiden claimer for fillies and mares sprinting six furlongs on turf. Eight horses have entered, but #8 American Miss (8-5) will scratch unless the race is rained off the turf.
Emerald Ember has run well in two starts sprinting on turf at Gulfstream Park. She debuted in May 2025 in a five-furlong maiden special weight, and after breaking slowly, she rallied from eighth place to finish second by a nose. She gained 3 1/2 lengths through the final furlong alone.
Emerald Ember didn’t race again until March 12. She returned to action in a five-furlong $50,000 maiden optional claimer, and after staying much closer to the pace than in her debut, she challenged for the lead and weakened slightly in the final furlong to finish third by 1 1/2 lengths.
Two subsequent starts on dirt and Tapeta have yielded a fourth-place finish in the Stonehedge Farm South Sophomore Fillies S. and a runner-up finish in a maiden special weight.
Emerald Ember has earned sharp Brisnet Speed ratings in all four of her starts and should be formidable while returning to turf and dropping in class. Her career-best 81 rating is the highest number in Sunday’s field, and it’s five points higher than the par winning number (76) for Race 4’s conditions.
Throw in the fact trainer George Weaver wins at a strong 26% rate with horses dropping from maiden special weight to maiden claiming competition, and Emerald Ember is a compelling single to start the Pick 6.
Good luck!
