There are a couple of enticing carryovers to chase on Saturday at Colonial Downs.
The 50-cent Late Pick 5 starting in Race 5 (post time 2:45 p.m. ET) has tossed up a $14,179 prize pool. Meanwhile, the 50-cent "Old Dominion 6" Pick 6 gets underway in Race 4 (post time 2:10 p.m. ET) with an $8,073 carryover.
We’ll focus our attention on the Late Pick 5, assembling a ticket for ~$120 that will hopefully reduce in cost a bit after scratches are announced:

Race 5: $50,000 Maiden Optional Claiming (one mile on turf)
This isn’t a strong field on paper. #11 No More Calls (9-2) made his turf debut with a fifth-place finish (beaten only 1 1/4 lengths) in a recent maiden special weight at Delaware Park, and that effort might be good enough to win here. But don’t dismiss #9 Original Score (5-2), who is stretching out in distance for trainer Arnaud Delacour, a 35% winner with horses running long for the first time. #1 Smols (10-1) is also eligible to factor while switching from turf to dirt.
Race 6: Allowance (one mile on turf)
#8 Jack’s Legend (3-1) ran second by 1 1/2 lengths in a one-mile grass allowance at Colonial Downs last month, beating a few of the rivals he’ll face on Saturday. He’s a logical choice to factor again, though deep-closing #2 Hyteck Prince (10-1) and the speedy #9 Covert Kat (5-2) may give him a fight.

Race 7: Maiden Special Weight (5 1/2 furlongs on turf)
This is a competitive contest. #1 Destination (4-1) hasn’t missed the trifecta in five dirt starts and could shine while trying turf. #3 High Shot (5-2) finished second over this course, distance, and class level last summer. And longshot #4 Donut Dali (50-1) could improve while switching to turf, cutting back in distance, adding blinkers, and racing on Lasix for the first time.
Race 8: $50,000 Claiming (one mile on turf)
#7 Feral’s Joy (7-2) was beaten only three-quarters of a length when finishing third over this course and class level last month. He brings a sharp series of Brisnet Speed ratings to the table and should contend again, though New York shipper #1 Jhirsch (5-1) and the class-dropping #4 Carcano (9-2) are fast enough to challenge when at their best.
Race 9: $40,000 Maiden Claiming (1 1/16 miles on turf)
#2 Black Empire (4-1) was last seen missing victory by half a length when second over this course and class level on July 26. He pulled 5 3/4 lengths clear of the third-place finisher and has every chance to star in his second try at this level. But #4 Message of Hope (5-2) has run faster on the Brisnet Speed rating scale, and New York shipper #5 Just Bernie (30-1) could step forward while dropping in class out of two maiden special weights.
Good luck!
