Colonial Downs: Single for Sunday’s $7,384 Pick 6 carryover

If you want to win a share of Sunday’s $7,384 “Old Dominion 6” Pick 6 carryover at Colonial Downs, you’ll have to solve a highly challenging sequence of races.

The 50-cent wager spans Race 4 through Race 9. Before scratches, the six races contain a total of 67 horses (averaging nearly 11.2 per race), and only three of those horses are also-eligible entrants. All told, there are 1,801,800 possible Pick 6 outcomes to consider.

That’s a huge number even by Pick 6 standards. Finding a trustworthy single to build ticket around will reduce the cost and complexity of assembling tickets.

Fortunately, Race 5—which features a 14-horse field, including two also-eligibles—offers a possible single in the form of #7 Repurpose (2-1). Singling Repurpose will reduce the number of Pick 6 outcomes to consider down to 128,700.

Best single: #7 Repurpose (2-1)

Race 5 is a $16,000 maiden claimer for three-year-olds and older horses sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs on turf. The race appears ripe for conquest by Repurpose, who is dropping in class.

Repurpose opened his career with a pair of respectable showings in $50,000 maiden claimers on turf. In his debut dashing 5 1/2 furlongs at Saratoga, he finished third out of eight, beaten only 1 1/2 lengths. Then in a six-furlong sprint at Aqueduct, he finished fifth in a 12-horse field. Those efforts earned sharp Brisnet Speed ratings of 75 and 76, both of which are higher than the par winning number (74) for Sunday’s conditions.

Repurpose opened his 2026 campaign in a two-mile maiden special weight over hurdles at Fair Hill, where he trailed throughout and was pulled up. Returning to flat racing and cutting back to 5 1/2 furlongs for his second start of the year should trigger a rebound. Dropping in class for a $16,000 maiden claimer cements the four-year-old gelding as the horse to beat.

Some bettors may wish to use #2 Kraken (2-1) as backup, since his best Brisnet Speed ratings are similar to the ones Repurpose has posted. But Kraken is 0-for-8 and has already lost at the $16,000 maiden claiming level, so Repurpose appears to have more upside while dropping in class.
