If you want to win a share of Sunday’s $4,952 Super High 5 carryover at Ellis Park, you’ll have to place your bets earlier than usual.
In order to beat summer heat, the card is getting underway at 11:00 a.m. ET. The carryover is up for grabs right off the bat in Race 1.
Ellis Park: Race 1: $4,952 Super High 5 carryover (11:00 a.m. ET)
Race 1 is a $16,000 claimer for three-year-olds and older horses sprinting 6 1/2 furlongs on dirt. Nine horses entered, though #8 Vaccinator (15-1) is an early scratch.
Morning-line favorite #9 Mitty’s Griddy (2-1) brings sharp form to the table, and we recommend keying him on top in the Super High 5.
Wagers
- $1 Super High 5: 9 with 1 with 4,5,7 with 2,4,5,7 with 2,3,4,5,7 ($27)
- $1 Super High 5: 9 with 4,5,7 with 1 with 2,4,5,7 with 2,3,4,5,7 ($27)
Total: $54
Mitty’s Griddy spent the winter and spring competing at Oaklawn Park. Along the way, he fired off some strong efforts. Most notably, he survived a contested pace to win a $40,000 claimer by a nose, earning an 87 Brisnet Speed rating.
On June 19, Mitty’s Griddy finished fourth in a $20,000 claimer at Churchill Downs. He was claimed out of that race by Joe Sharp and made his next start in a $30,000 claimer at Ellis Park. He raced third at every call and was right in contention down the homestretch before weakening to finish 1 3/4 lengths behind the winner, earning an 84 Brisnet Speed rating.
The par winning Brisnet Speed rating for Sunday’s conditions is 86. Dropping down to the $16,000 level should make Mitty’s Griddy tough to beat, especially since Sharp wins at a 20% rate with horses running for the second time following a claim.
Underneath Mitty’s Griddy, we’ll count on #1 Guardian (3-1) to finish either second or third. He ran fifth (four lengths behind Mitty’s Griddy) in the above-mentioned $30,000 claimer at Ellis Park and should likewise appreciate dropping in class. Three starts back, he wired a $16,000 claimer at Churchill Downs by 10 1/2 lengths, earning an 88 Brisnet Speed rating.
#4 Halfway Joking (6-1), #5 Tiger’s Legacy (6-1), and #7 War Munny (12-1) are others we’ll use prominently on our tickets.
Good luck!
