Ellis Park: How to bet the $27,389 Super High 5 carryover

July 12th, 2025

Get ready. After the Super High 5 at Ellis Park went unsolved during the final two races on Friday, the $1 wager boasts a substantial $27,389 carryover for Saturday’s card.

The prize pool is up for grabs in Race 2, a $16,000 claimer for horses who have never won two races. The six-furlong dirt dash has drawn a competitive eight-horse field, and anyone who assembles a winning ticket ought to catch a solid payoff.

Ellis Park Super High 5 carryover: wagers

  • $1 Super High 5: 5 with 1 with 4,6,7,8 with 4,6,7,8 with ALL ($48)
  • $1 Super High 5: 5 with 4,6,7,8 with 1 with 4,6,7,8 with ALL ($48)
    Total: $96

There isn’t an overabundance of pace in this field, which should play to the strengths of #5 Vertrauen (2-1). The four-year-old gelding has carved out the pace in four of his six starts, including when finishing fourth in a 6 1/2-furlong $40,000 claimer at Churchill Downs last month. Trainer Robertino Diodoro wins at a lofty 32% rate with horses dropping multiple levels down the class ladder, so descending into a $16,000 claimer should make Vertrauen tough to catch.

We’ll take a stand and key Vertrauen on top in the Super High 5.

Underneath, #1 Rewire (7-2) is well worth using. After rallying to finish second in a six-furlong $16,000-$10,000 claimer at Oaklawn Park, he ran third in a $20,000 allowance optional claimer at Fairmount Park, earning a sharp 81 Brisnet Speed rating. That’s the highest last-out number belonging to any horse entered in Race 2.

Last fall at Churchill Downs, Rewire ran second in a $16,000 claimer for non-winners of two races, so he fits well at this class level. We’ll count on him to record a top-three finish.

#6 Call the Calvary (8-1) is another logical contender while dropping in class off a sixth-place finish in a $35,000 claimer at Gulfstream Park. Fellow Gulfstream shipper #8 Midnight Boss (15-1) could factor too; he dominated a $12,500 maiden claimer by 6 3/4 lengths before running fourth in a $75,000 allowance optional claimer.

#4 Purse Thief (8-1) and #7 Global Legend (6-1) are others we’ll emphasize. Then we’ll add #2 Andy’s Candy (4-1) and #3 Beezer (10-1) to the bottom of our tickets.

Good luck!
