Best Bets and Quick Picks
Colonial Downs: Race 1: Maiden Special Weight (six furlongs on dirt, 12:30 p.m. ET)
#4 Silver Strings (7-2) is a first-time starter from the barn of Brittany Russell, who wins at a 28% rate with horses debuting in maiden special weights.
Silver Strings’ sire (Nashville) and dam sire (Bandbox) were both stakes-winning sprinters, so she’s bred for speed and warrants respect under jockey Jevian Toledo, a 23% winner teaming up with Russell over the last two months.
Let’s place a win bet on Silver Strings.
Selections
- #4 Silver Strings (7-2)
- #3 Uppity (9-5)
- #7 Quality Springs (6-1)
Wagers
- $25 to win on #4 Silver Strings
Saratoga: Race 2: Maiden Special Weight (1 1/16 miles on turf, 1:44 p.m. ET)
#6 Loop D Loop (10-1) is an unraced daughter of Vekoma, who sires 17% winners on turf and 14% winners from first-time turf starters. The bay filly is trained by George Weaver, who strikes at a sharp 22% rate with horses debuting on turf.
Seven timed workouts, including a half-mile over Saratoga’s training track turf course in :50 3/5, should give Loop D Loop a chance to factor on debut. Let’s bet her to win and play her over #7 Just Peachy (5-2) and #3 Conflict (4-1) in a small exacta.
Selections
- #6 Loop D Loop (10-1)
- #7 Just Peachy (5-2)
- #3 Conflict (4-1)
Wagers
- $20 to win on #6 Loop D Loop
- $3 Exacta: 6 with 3,7 ($6)
Total: $26
Del Mar: Race 1: $50,000 Maiden Claiming (five furlongs on dirt, 5:00 p.m. ET)
#10 Here Comes Too Too (10-1), an unraced juvenile, is worth respecting since trainer George Papaprodromou wins at a lofty 20% rate with horses debuting at the maiden claiming level. That’s much higher than his 8% success rate with all first-time starters.
Here Comes Too Too has put together a lengthy work tab in preparation for his debut and is slated to be ridden by Cesar Belmont, who has gone 3-for-9 (33%) teaming up with Papaprodromou over the last two months.
At 10-1, Here Comes Too Too is worthy of a win bet. We’ll also play him over #6 Winsor George (7-2) in an exacta.
Selections
- #10 Here Comes Too Too (10-1)
- #6 Winsor George (7-2)
- #5 Smokem Wicked (5-1)
Wagers
- $20 to win on #10 Here Comes Too Too
- $4 Exacta: 10 with 6
Total: $24
Carryover Watch
Colonial Downs: Race 3: $3,171 Pick 6 carryover (1:30 p.m. ET)
The Friday card at Colonial Downs is highlighted by a $3,171 carryover in the 50-cent “Old Dominion 6” Pick 6.
The opening leg of the sequence is Race 3, a maiden special weight for two-year-olds dashing six furlongs on dirt. #2 Godfidence (7-5) is a logical favorite after finishing third by two lengths in a five-furlong maiden special weight at Gulfstream Park; the first horse across the finish line, Watson, flattered the form by returning to win the Proud Man S. in his next start.
But a couple of first-time starters are worth using at enticing odds. #5 Bougie Bro (15-1) hails from the barn of Madison Meyers, a 21% winner with horses debuting in maiden special weights. And #6 Off to Repair (6-1) is conditioned by Jeremiah O’Dwyer, who has compiled a stellar 5-for-9 (56%) record at Colonial Downs this meet. Either one could fire a strong shot on debut and upset Godfidence.
Del Mar: Race 3: $192,794 Pick 6 carryover (6:02 p.m. ET)
After going unsolved on each of the last two race days, the $2 Pick 6 at Del Mar features a massive double carryover worth $192,794 for Friday’s card.
The feature event in the six-race sequence is Race 7, the $150,000 Fleet Treat S. for California-bred three-year-old fillies sprinting seven furlongs on dirt. Although a dozen horses have entered, #8 Mohaven (8-5), from the barn of John Sadler, looks like a compelling single.
Mohaven hasn’t missed the exacta in six starts on dirt, and she’s dominated her last three starts on dirt by daylight margins. Last October, she trounced the seven-furlong Golden State Juvenile Fillies S. at Del Mar by 4 1/4 lengths. Then—following a misfire on turf in her 2026 debut—Mohaven switched to the Santa Anita dirt and led all the way to win the 6 1/2-furlong Evening Jewel S. by five lengths and the 1 1/16-mile Melair S. by six lengths.
Mohaven has already defeated many of the rivals she’ll face in the Fleet Treat. She brings sharp Brisnet Speed ratings to the table and is slated to be ridden by hot jockey Emisael Jaramillo, who has gone 3-for-6 (50%) teaming up with Sadler over the last two months. Mohaven appears poised to secure yet another stakes win.
Good luck!
