Best Bets and Quick Picks
Los Alamitos Thoroughbred: Race 1: $30,000 Maiden Claiming (five furlongs on dirt, 4:00 p.m. ET)
#4 Allons Y (2-1) is dropping in class after setting solid pace fractions in a pair of maiden special weights at Santa Anita and Los Alamitos. Now she’s dropping into a $30,000 maiden claimer, where she appears fast enough to outduel key pace rival #3 Please Behave (8-5), who exits a runner-up finish in $50,000 maiden claimer for California-breds.
A cold exacta, Allons Y over Please Behave, is the way we’ll play.
Selections
- #4 Allons Y (2-1)
- #3 Please Behave (8-5)
- #6 Cap ‘n Gown (8-1)
Wagers
- $25 Exacta: 4 with 3
Canterbury Park: Race 1: Maiden Special Weight (4 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 5:13 p.m. ET)
First-time starter #4 Midnight Bullet (8-5) enters off a couple of half-mile workouts from the Canterbury Park starting gate, including one in a respectable :48 2/5. The son of Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner Rock Your World looks like a threat to win on debut for the hot jockey/trainer duo of Manuel Americano and Jose Silva Jr., who have gone 11-for-35 (31%) teaming up together over the last two months.
Let’s single Midnight Bullet to start a daily double.
Selections
- #4 Midnight Bullet (8-5)
- #3 Wilkin County (5-2)
- #2 Diablo’s d’Etat (9-2)
Wagers
- $20 Double: 4 with 2
Canterbury Park: Race 2: $12,500 Allowance Optional Claiming (one mile on turf, 5:45 p.m. ET)
If Silva and Americano score with Midnight Bullet in Race 1, they’ll have a chance to sweep the early double with #2 Found My Ball (8-5) in Race 2.
Found My Ball ran well over this course, distance, and class level on June 14. He advanced steadily into a solid pace and fought nicely down the homestretch to finish second, beaten only half a length.
Sticking to the same conditions can land Found My Ball a victory. We’ll single him to conclude our daily double, then bet him over #3 Caught Off Guard (4-1) in an exacta.
Selections
- #2 Found My Ball (8-5)
- #3 Caught Off Guard (4-1)
- #4 Cobblestone Bridge (9-2)
Wagers
- $10 Exacta: 2 with 3
Good luck!
