Kentucky Downs: How to bet the $5,528 Super High 5 carryover

August 31st, 2025

If you can select the top five finishers, in order, in Sunday’s 11th race at Kentucky Downs, you can win a share of a $5,528 carryover in the 50-cent Super High 5.

Race 11 is the $1 million Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies S., a one-mile grass contest with a 10-horse field. There are 30,240 possible Super High 5 outcomes, so hitting the right one won’t be a walk in the park.

Here are five horses you’ll want to emphasize when assembling Super High 5 tickets:

#1 Loveliest (9-2): This beautifully bred Eddie Kenneally trainee crushed her debut in a one-mile maiden special weight at Ellis Park, saving ground and bursting clear in the homestretch to win by five lengths. She showed a nice turn of foot, running her final quarter-mile in :23.08, so there’s clearly talent here.

#2 To a Flame (6-1): Since 2000, trainer Rusty Arnold has won at a modest 8% rate with first-time starters. He’s enjoyed considerably more success with second-time starters in recent years. That’s why we’re keen to back To a Flame, an Arnold trainee who won her debut in a one-mile maiden special weight on dirt at Ellis Park. She’s bred to thrive on grass, so don’t be surprised if To a Flame improves dramatically while switching surfaces for her second start.

#6 Meringue (3-1): After rallying boldly to win her debut sprinting five furlongs over the Churchill Downs turf, Meringue switched to dirt for Saratoga’s Adirondack (G3) and finished second behind multiple stakes winner Mythical. Meringue brings sharp Brisnet Speed ratings to her route debut and has every chance to factor while returning to turf.

#7 Soloist (5-1): Trainer Kenny McPeek isn’t known for cranking his juveniles to win on debut, and those that do win first time out often turn into stakes stars. That bodes well for Soloist, who launched a sharp rally to win her debut in a 1 1/16-mile turf maiden special weight at Ellis Park. McPeek wins at a lofty 24% rate with second-time grass starters, so there’s a strong chance Soloist will vie for victory at Kentucky Downs.

#9 Oscar’s Encore (4-1): A daughter of early-maturing Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) winner Oscar Performance, Oscar’s Encore impressed when debuting in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight at Saratoga, pressing the pace before taking over to win by two lengths. The 88 Brisnet Speed rating she received tops Sunday’s field.
