Best Bets and Quick Picks

Finger Lakes: Race 4: New York Breeders’ Futurity (six furlongs on dirt, 2:27 p.m. ET)

#3 Arctic Beast (4-5) is unbeaten in two starts. He won his debut at Saratoga by a nose, then shipped to Finger Lakes and smashed the Aspirant S. by 7 1/4 lengths.

With Brisnet Speed ratings of 90 and 92 under his belt, Arctic Beast is far and away the fastest horse in the New York Breeders’ Futurity field. He should win without difficulty, so let’s key him on top of trifecta tickets using #1 Party in the Army (4-1), #2 Diamond Child (3-1), and #5 Pepper J (12-1) underneath.

Selections

  • #3 Arctic Beast (4-5)
  • #1 Party in the Army (4-1)
  • #2 Diamond Child (3-1)

Wagers

  • $10 Trifecta: 3 with 1 with 2,5 ($20)
  • $10 Trifecta: 3 with 2,5 with 1 ($20)
    Total: $40

Santa Anita: Race 2: Maiden Special Weight (one mile on dirt, 4:30 p.m. ET)

#4 Out of the Woods (9-2) debuted in a six-furlong maiden special weight at Santa Anita. He made a nice middle move into a strong pace before tiring to finish fourth.

Out of the Woods has the pedigree to stretch out in distance for red-hot trainer Phil D’Amato, a 34% winner at Santa Anita this meet and a 23% winner with horses running long for the first time. The addition of blinkers further opens the door for Out of the Woods to improve.

#5 Mr. A. P. (7-5) can complete the exacta.

Selections

  • #4 Out of the Woods (9-2)
  • #5 Mr. A. P. (7-5)
  • #2 Cherokee Nation (2-1)

Wagers

  • $20 to win on #4 Out of the Woods
  • $10 Exacta: 4 with 5
    Total: $30

Finger Lakes: Race 9: $11,000 Maiden Claiming (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 4:52 p.m. ET)

#1 Otto Nipoti (3-1) raced three times during the summer at Saratoga, finishing third, fifth, and fifth in $20,000 maiden claimers.

Otto Nipoti was claimed out of his latest effort by trainer Mike Maker, who has gone 2-for-3 (67%) at Finger Lakes this meet. Dropping in class and adding blinkers should send Otto Nipoti to the winner’s circle over #3 Racerx (5-2) and #4 Dignified Response (4-1).

Selections

  • #1 Otto Nipoti (3-1)
  • #3 Racerx (5-2)
  • #4 Dignified Response (4-1)

Wagers

  • $20 to win on #1 Otto Nipoti
  • $5 Exacta: 1 with 3,4 ($10)
    Total: $30

Good luck!
