Picks: $1,000 Churchill Downs BCBC Qualifier, $109,520 Santa Anita Pick 6 carryover

A $1,000 tournament focused on Churchill Downs and a $109,520 Pick 6 carryover at Santa Anita are among the betting opportunities to pursue on the final Sunday in October.

$1,000 Churchill Downs BCBC Bonus Qualifier tournament

Opening day of the Churchill Downs fall meet is the focus of the $1,000 Churchill Downs BCBC Bonus Qualifier tournament on TwinSpires, which—depending on the number of entries—could award multiple entries into the Oct. 30-31 Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC).

Players in the Bonus Qualifier must wager at least $500 of their bankroll across a minimum of five races at Churchill Downs, with at least $50 in a given race required for it to count toward the five-race minimum.

If you want to climb the leaderboard early on, try placing a $50 or even $100 win bet on first-time starter #5 Broadway Girl (8-5) in Race 1, a maiden special weight for two-year-old fillies racing one mile on dirt.

As a daughter of Justify out of a mare by Bernardini, Broadway Girl is bred to shine running long for trainer Brad Cox, who wins at a strong 25% rate with horses debuting over one mile or farther.

Santa Anita: Race 4: $109,520 Pick 6 carryover (5:33 p.m. ET)

The Sunday card at Santa Anita is highlighted by a huge $109,520 carryover in the $2 Pick 6.

Players looking for a single to build tickets around should check out #2 Little King (7-5) in Race 5, a maiden special weight for California-bred juveniles sprinting 6 1/2 furlongs on turf.

Little King ran well when making his grass debut at this course and class level on Sept. 27. He raced in second place through hot fractions of :21.17 and :44.13 before staying on well in the drive to hold the runner-up spot, beaten only 1 3/4 lengths while earning a sharp 86 Brisnet Speed rating that tops Sunday’s field.

Trainer George Papaprodromou wins at a 27% rate with second-time grass starters, and jockey Umberto Rispoli (a 23% winner on turf this year) retains the mount, so there’s a lot to like about Little King.

Good luck!
