Handicapper J. Keeler Johnson shares horses to play in a quartet of valuable Pick 5 and Pick 6 carryovers on Sunday at Oaklawn Park, Gulfstream Park, and Santa Anita.
Oaklawn Park: Race 4: $25,432 Pick 6 carryover (3:05 p.m. ET)
The betting highlight on Sunday at Oaklawn is a $25,432 carryover in the $1 Classix Pick 6.
One longshot you won’t want to leave off your tickets is #7 Mr. Tallymon (20-1) in Race 6, a six-furlong maiden special weight for three-year-olds. Mr. Tallymon is an unraced son of Vekoma, who sires a lofty 22% winners from first-time starters, and he’s trained by Matt Williams, a 33% winner with horses debuting in maiden special weights.
These stats suggest Mr. Tallymon has a chance to outrun his double-digit odds.
Coast to Coast Pick 5: $119,874 Pick 5 carryover (3:52 p.m. ET)
The Coast to Coast Pick 5, comprised of races at Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita, has tossed up a huge $119,874 carryover for Sunday.
The best chance for a single can arguably be found in the final leg of the sequence, which is Race 7 at Santa Anita, the Santa Ana (G3) for fillies and mares racing 1 1/4 miles on turf. #10 Mrs. Astor (5-2) has won six of her last eight starts, all against stakes competition on turf. Along the way, she’s recorded wins over distances from 1 1/8 miles to 1 1/2 miles.
Mrs. Astor is consistent, accomplished, and hands-down the horse to beat in the Santa Ana.

Sunset Six: $47,002 Pick 6 carryover (4:23 p.m. ET)
Similar to the Coast to Coast Pick 5, the Sunset Six is a special Pick 6 wager featuring races from Gulfstream and Santa Anita, and it boasts a $47,002 carryover for Sunday.
The fourth leg of the Sunset Six happens to be Race 7 at Santa Anita, the above-mentioned Santa Ana. Again, we recommend building tickets around #10 Mrs. Astor (5-2) as a single.
Santa Anita: Race 4: $32,102 Pick 6 carryover (5:36 p.m. ET)
Sunday’s $2 traditional Pick 6 at Santa Anita features a $32,102 carryover.
The opening leg of the sequence is Race 4, a $6,250 claimer for older horses racing one mile on dirt. Only three horses are slated to start, and #4 Contrary Chieftain (8-5) looks tough to beat. Two starts back, he wired an $8,000 claimer over this track and distance by 6 1/2 lengths, earning an 87 Brisnet Speed rating seven points higher than the par winning number for Sunday’s conditions.
A typical performance from Contrary Chieftain should secure a comfortable victory, so bettors can feel confident singling the seven-year-old gelding in the Pick 6.
Good luck!
