Presque Isle Downs Racing (Coady Media)
Dick Powell handicaps the Tuesday racing action at Presque Isle Downs.
Race 1
1st: (2) BOUJIE BETZ – still a maiden after six tries here. She finished up last year with a third in a stakes race, then was right there to the deep stretch last out here two weeks ago. She makes her second start off the layoff for Teresa Connelly.
2nd: (1) SPOKEN VOW – showed terrific gate speed last year against all sorts of maiden company. She rated a bit better last out for Brooke Bays, who shows a flat-bet profit with her sprint starters, and should be the one to catch from post 1.
3rd: (3) BOOGIE WOOGIE – first-time starter from Randy Russell, who wins 10% with his debut runners.
Race 2
1st: (8) SAMURAI LEGACY – horse for the course has won 11 times here. Off the long layoff, he held well for second in a game effort for Mike Pappada, who wins 10% in this spot and 17% with his overall claimers.
2nd: (3) BEAR CREEK – rallied for third two starts back at long odds, then he came back with an even effort. Son of Paynter drops down in class for Mark Hoffman, who wins 17% with his synthetic-track starters. Leading rider Antonio Gallardo picks up the mount.
3rd: (5) JOE PHILLIPS – rallied some in his seasonal debut, then ran poorly with blinkers that come off today.
Race 3
1st: (2) UNBRIDLED PEACE – broke her maiden first time out on the dirt at Tampa Bay, then just missed there against allowance foes. She rallied to miss by a neck last out here in her Tapeta debut for Juan Arriagada, who wins 23% with his sprinters.
2nd: (4) LITTLE LAMB CHOP – has run well in five of six starts here, including a second against this allowance level last October. Daughter of Dialed In returns off the long layoff for Adam Rice, who wins 26% with his synthetic-track starters.
3rd: (1) ANHINGA – broke her maiden here last year, then beat decent claimers in fast time two weeks ago.
Race 4
1st: (7) GEA – beat cheaper claimers two starts back on the Tapeta at Turfway Park, then she could not overcome post 12 when moved way up in class. Bill Morey wins 20% off medium rest, and she picks up Gallardo.
2nd: (6) LADYS CHANT – has run well here in the past without winning. Off a good second on the dirt at Tampa Bay, she came back there and went gate to wire. Ron Allen Jr. rides back – he’s 21% with his route starters, and the last 57 of them show a flat-bet profit.
3rd: (1) RED ELEANOR – beat bottom claimers two starts back on the dirt at Tampa Bay, then ran well here in her PID debut.
Race 5
1st: (2) PRINCE OF AYRSHIRE – has been crushed in his last three starts on turf, dirt, and Tapeta. But the son of English Channel has plenty of back class and should be tough in his second start off a fast race here last out.
2nd: (5) CITY LEADER – moves up a notch in class off a speedy win here while making his first start in eight months. Ron Potts wins 19% second start off the layoff and 17% first start after a win.
3rd: (6) CLASSIC KING – won easily two starts back on the dirt at Tampa Bay, then just missed here against this claiming level.
Race 6
1st: (8) TAKE FLIGHT NIGHT – chased the pace in her career debut on a sloppy track at Belterra. Daughter of Curlin switches to Tapeta with blinkers removed. Riley Mott wins 17% second time going long and gets Gallardo.
2nd: (6) KISS ME AGAIN – was a good second on the Tapeta at Turfway, then chased on the dirt at Churchill Downs. Daughter of Into Mischief came here and was a good second in her PID debut for Jordan Blair, who wins 29% first start after being beaten as the favorite.
3rd: (7) BE TOGETHER – first-time starter by Uncle Mo (15% debut winners) out of a dam by Smart Strike.
Race 7
1st: (4) SMALL FIELD – makes his Tapeta debut at the age of seven after doing his best on turf. He finished up last season with a good third at Colonial, then returned this year and missed by a neck at Mountaineer. Shane Meyers wins 12% second start off the layoff.
2nd: (7) TEMPUS – horse for the course rallied for second here going 1 1/2 miles to finish up last season. He came out three weeks ago with a good second against this allowance level for Keith Dickey, who wins 15% second start off the layoff.
3rd: (8) ALEMAN – has good early speed and has never been off the board in five starts here.
Race 8
1st: (3) R PENELOPE – still a maiden after nine tries, but she has the advantage of already having two starts over the track. She held better last out when stretched out to two turns for Murray Rojas, who wins 16% with her synthetic-track starters.
2nd: (10) HIGH TRACK – showed good speed two starts back going two turns, then held well last out when dropped down to this maiden claiming level. Daughter of Hightail is a half-sister to a stakes winner.
3rd: (6) ISSA VYBE – was an even fourth going two turns when dropped down to this maiden claiming level.
