Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Tuesday, May 27, 2025

May 26th, 2025

Dick Powell handicaps the Tuesday card at Presque Isle Downs.

Race 1

1st: (6) PROTECTTHEWITNESS – just missed two starts back going two turns in fast time, then came back and rallied to get second again. She’s been off 267 days and gets Martina Rojas, who should be able to make the lead from here.

2nd: (1) TRAUMARAMA – did nothing to finish up last year on the dirt at Mountaineer Park but was a good third here in her PID debut at the age of 11. She draws the rail and could be dangerous if she breaks running into the turn.

3rd: (4) SECOND EXCHANGE – was a good second at 46-1 at Turfway Park, then did nothing on the dirt.

Race 2

1st: (7) HARBOUR BRIDGE – took him 16 starts to break his maiden two starts back, then came back and rallied for second. Son of Justify makes his second start off the layoff for Krista Hetrick, who wins 21% in this spot and 41% with her claimers.

2nd: (5) SHARON’S PRINCE – was a good third two starts back against cheaper, then moved up to this level in his first start off the claim and missed by a length in a rough trip. Red-hot Israel Rodriguez picks up the mount.

3rd: (3) OUTSIDER – rallied from far back to win going away in his well-bet career debut, then was a good third against winners.

Race 3

1st: (2) CAP CLASSIQUE – versatile filly is a stakes winner going this distance and was stakes-placed last year going seven furlongs. Daughter of Vino Rosso raced evenly after a poor start last out as the 13-10 favorite off the long layoff.

2nd: (3) IMMORTALLOVE – has yet to win here in seven tries, but she has four placings. She ran well on the dirt at Tampa Bay this winter, and Scott Spieth rides back. The daughter of Kantharos can run on or off the pace.

3rd: (4) GIRL OF MY DREAMS – went gate to wire on the Tapeta at Turfway Park, then did nothing in her last two starts.

Race 4

1st: (8) STARSHIP RADIANCE – rallied from dead last to get second after being shuffled back from post one in her well-bet career debut. She returns at the same distance for John Fennessy, who wins 13% with his overall maiden claimers.

3rd: (6) ROCK TUNE – dropped down to this maiden claiming level last year and ran second two starts in a row. She finished up last year showing good speed on the dirt for Mike Rogers, who wins 13% off long layoffs.

3rd: (3) WHEREVER WE ARE – was soundly beaten at odds-on against better maidens at Keeneland last October.

Race 5

1st: (8) OMIKAMI – after a long drought, she won here going two turns from way back, then ran the same race and won again. She finished up last year with an even fourth when moved up in class for Kim DePasquale, who wins 14% off the layoff.

2nd: (1) SEATTLE CAUSEWAY – raced mostly in Canada on turf and Tapeta. She showed a good second on the dirt at Tampa Bay Downs for Murray Rojas, who takes over as trainer. Scott Spieth returns in the irons.

3rd: (4) TESHIMA – horse for the course won two of three starts here against better, and he prepped for this with three dirt sprints.

Race 6

1st: (9) I’M NO ANGEL – showed good speed on the turf early in his career, then was an even fifth going five furlongs on the Tapeta at Gulfstream. He bounced back with a good third on the turf going this distance and beats these if he can repeat that effort.

2nd: (6) FROZEN FOUR – ran well without winning here last year against much better company. His last seven starts came on the turf at Tampa Bay and shows four thirds, all coming from far back off the pace.

3rd: (2) MOHTAFIL – began his career with two seconds, then did little the next two times out. He woke up last out with a good second.

Race 7

1st: (6) TARHE – after a good third in a rough trip on the turf at Tampa Bay, he made his own luck gunning to the front and never looking back at 10-1. Son of Constitution will be tough here if Israel Rodriguez sends him to the front.

2nd: (8) BRAGGART JOE – rallied from off the pace to win going away at odds of 44-1 to finish up last year going a mile here in good time. He returned with a good sprint after being far back and should improve stretching out with a race under his belt.

3rd: (2) UNCLE TRULY – Uncle Mo gelding makes his Tapeta debut off some solid turf efforts against allowance foes.

Race 8

1st: (3) JEN’S SONG – one-dimensional closer has won 12 times here over the years. His return to the races last year off a similar layoff was an even sixth, but it came against much better company. Now, he shows up with Addiel Ayala, and the claim waived.

2nd: (5) SANDY LANE KITTEN – 10-year-old makes his Tapeta debut but shows good speed on turf and dirt. Juan Arriagada wins 44% with this class dropdown and 23% off long layoffs. Gaddiel Martinez rides for the first time.

3rd: (4) K P ALL SYSTEMS GO – turf runner tries Tapeta for the second time for Jeff Englehart, who wins 13% off the layoff.
