Best Bets and Quick Picks

Churchill Downs: Race 5: Allowance (one mile on turf, 2:57 p.m. ET)

#7 Infiltrate (5-2) has shown promise on dirt. He dominated his debut sprinting six furlongs by 3 1/2 lengths, then finished second in a 1 1/16-mile $100,000 allowance optional claimer at Keeneland. In the latter race, he was beaten only half a length while pulling 10 lengths clear of next-out winner Grand Mahogany.

As a son of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) winner Oscar Performance, Infiltrate has the pedigree to shine while switching to grass for hot trainer Brendan Walsh. Let’s bet him to win.

Selections

  • #7 Infiltrate (5-2)
  • #3 Easy Wind (7-2)
  • #6 East Village (4-1)

Wagers

  • $30 to win on #7 Infiltrate

Fair Grounds: Race 7: Donovan L. Ferguson Memorial S. (six furlongs on dirt, 4:45 p.m. ET)

In terms of Brisnet Speed ratings, the fastest entrant in this field of Louisiana-bred juvenile fillies is #3 Wickedwithbourbon (8-1). She posted an 89 when smashing a six-furlong $40,000 maiden claimer at Colonial Downs by 16 lengths.

Wickedwithbourbon subsequently flashed early speed on her way to finishing fourth in a $50,000 starter allowance at Keeneland. Entering the Louisiana-bred ranks should help Wickedwithbourbon vie for victory at a price, so let’s bet her to win and hope her 8-1 morning-line odds hold up.

Selections

  • #3 Wickedwithbourbon (8-1)
  • #2 Little Miss Curlin (3-1)
  • #6 Liteupthenite (7-2)

Wagers

  • $25 to win on #3 Wickedwithbourbon

Churchill Downs: Race 10: Maiden Special Weight (six furlongs on dirt, 5:24 p.m. ET)

#1 Lady Got Game (10-1) is an unraced two-year-old daughter of champion juvenile Game Winner. She hails from the barn of Paulo Lobo, who wins at a 22% rate with first-time starters. She’s slated to be ridden by Jose Ortiz, a 25% winner at Churchill Downs this meet.

These facts suggest Lady Got Game can outrun her 10-1 morning-line odds while facing a seemingly ordinary field on Friday. A win bet is in order, and we’ll also key her over #6 Halfway to Omaha (4-1) and #3 Legal Lightning (6-1) in the exacta.

Selections

  • #1 Lady Got Game (10-1)
  • #6 Halfway to Omaha (4-1)
  • #3 Legal Lightning (6-1)

Wagers

  • $20 to win on #1 Lady Got Game
  • $5 Exacta: 1 with 3,6 ($10)
    Total: $30

Carryover Watch

Churchill Downs: Race 2: $5,771 Super High 5 carryover (1:29 p.m. ET)

No one solved the $1 Super High 5 on Thursday at Churchill Downs, resulting in a $5,771 carryover for Friday’s card.

The prize pool is up for grabs in Race 2, a $16,000 claimer for fillies and mares dashing 6 1/2 furlongs on dirt. #5 Alongcomesawoman (1-1) is the heavy favorite and a horse we’ll build our tickets around.

Wagers

  • $1 Super High 5: 5 with 3,6,7 with 3,6,7 with 3,6,7,8 with 1,3,6,7,8 ($24)
  • $1 Super High 5: 3,6 with 5 with 3,6,7 with 3,6,7,8 with 1,3,6,7,8 ($16)
    Total: $40

Alongcomesawoman has only run twice on dirt. In a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight at Churchill Downs last year, she tracked the pace, advanced to lead, and then tired to finish fourth. Most recently, in a seven-furlong $30,000 maiden claimer at Churchill last month, she tracked the pace before taking over to dominate by 3 3/4 lengths.

That effort marked Alongcomesawoman’s first start in a sprint, and she earned a career-best 89 Brisnet Speed rating, easily the highest number belonging to any horse entered in Race 2. We’re confident she’ll produce another strong effort on Friday and finish in the top two.

Alongcomesawoman’s main challengers are #3 Mombayla (4-1) and #6 Gold Del Mar (9-2). Mombayla is dropping in class after rallying to finish fourth in a seven-furlong $20,000 claimer at Churchill Downs. Gold Del Mar is likewise facing easier competition; last time out, she ran second in a six-furlong $30,000 claimer at Churchill.

#7 Starlit Sofi (6-1) is an obvious choice to emphasize underneath. The five-year-old mare has cracked the top five in seven straight $16,000 claimers on the Kentucky circuit, including five at Churchill Downs.

#8 Birthday Girl (6-1), last seen running fourth in a $50,000 starter optional claimer dashing six furlongs at Fair Grounds, has the Brisnet Speed ratings to factor for a top-five finish.

We’ll round out our tickets with longshot #1 Total Heart (15-1), who could get involved for a top-five finish if one of the favorites falters.

Good luck!
