Best Bets and Quick Picks

Churchill Downs: Race 1: $50,000 Starter Allowance (six furlongs on dirt, 1:00 p.m. ET)

#5 No Bees (2-1) earned a sharp 87 Brisnet Speed rating when debuting victorious in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight at Keeneland. That’s easily the highest number in Race 1.

No Bees has a strong chance to bring his record to a perfect 2-for-2. Let’s key him over $50,000 maiden claiming winner #3 Fulmine (6-1) in an exacta.

Selections

  • #5 No Bees (2-1)
  • #3 Fulmine (6-1)
  • #1 Dr Fenn (5-1)

Wagers

  • $20 Exacta: 5 with 3

Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 10: Miss Indiana S. (one mile and 70 yards on dirt, 5:17 p.m. ET)

#6 Eltinge (9-2) earned a sharp 73 Brisnet Speed rating when finishing second in the six-furlong Back Home Again S. at Horseshoe Indianapolis. She pulled 2 1/4 lengths ahead of third-place finisher #2 Spirited Anne (5-1), who returned to win a $62,500 allowance optional claimer in her next start.

Eltinge’s pedigree suggests she won’t have any trouble stretching out around two turns. Her dam, Amberly Village, has previously foaled one-mile and 70-yard ITOBA Stallion Season Fillies H. winners Crosley and Spooky Ridge.

Let’s bet Eltinge to win and single her to start a cold double wager.

Selections

  • #6 Eltinge (9-2)
  • #2 Spirited Anne (5-1)
  • #1 Sahara Hottie (7-2)

Wagers

  • $20 to win on #6 Eltinge
  • $10 Double: 6 with 2
    Total: $30

Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 11: Indiana Futurity (one mile and 70 yards on dirt, 5:49 p.m. ET)

#2 Mister T (5-2) looks tough to beat in this spot. Last time out, he led all the way to win the six-furlong Crown Ambassador S. at Horseshoe Indianapolis by 2 3/4 lengths. And he’s already proven around two turns, having previously rallied to smash a one-mile Horseshoe Indianapolis maiden special weight by 13 3/4 lengths.

Let’s single Mister T to conclude our double wager, then key him over #12 Q’s Got Class (10-1) and #3 Mr Sledge Hammer (7-2) in the exacta and trifecta.

Selections

  • #2 Mister T (5-2)
  • #12 Q’s Got Class (10-1)
  • #3 Mr Sledge Hammer (7-2)

Wagers

  • $10 Exacta: 2 with 3,12 ($20)
  • $5 Trifecta: 2 with 3,12 with 3,12 ($10)
    Total: $30

Carryover Watch

Churchill Downs: Race 2: $9,316 Super High 5 carryover (1:29 p.m. ET)

Thursday’s second race at Churchill Downs includes a $9,316 carryover in the $1 Super High 5.

Race 2 is a $50,000 maiden claimer taking place over 1 1/16 miles on dirt. Nine horses have entered, all of them three-year-olds. We rank #2 Global Quote (3-1) as the horse to beat.

Wagers

  • $1 Super High 5: 2 with 1 with 4,6,8 with 4,5,6,8 with 3,4,5,6,7,8 ($36)
  • $1 Super High 5: 2 with 4,6,8 with 1 with 4,5,6,8 with 3,4,5,6,7,8 ($36)
    Total: $72

Global Quote began his career for high-percentage trainer Brad Cox. He showed flashes of ability in maiden special weights, most notably finishing third in a 1 1/16-mile contest at Fair Grounds, before dropping in class for a $50,000 maiden claimer at Churchill Downs. He closed from far back to finish third and was claimed by trainer Michael Tomlinson.

Under Tomlinson’s care, Global Quote finished fifth in an Ellis Park maiden special weight before running second (beaten only a head) in a $50,000 maiden claimer at Churchill Downs. Those efforts yielded sharp Brisnet Speed ratings of 81 and 80.

Notably, Global Quote was claimed out of his second start for Tomlinson by none other than Cox. The fact Cox claimed back Global Quote is notable, and since Cox wins at a powerful 36% rate with horses running for the first time following a claim, the stage appears set for Global Quote to secure victory in his third try over this class level.

We'll key Global Quote on top of our Super High 5 tickets. Underneath, we’ll definitely use #1 Heroic Act (4-1). In his first start since being claimed by high-percentage trainer Robertino Diodoro, Heroic Act finished a pacesetting second in a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight at Remington Park, earning an 89 Brisnet Speed rating equal to Global Quote’s career-best number. Diodoro wins at a 26% rate with horses running for the second time following a claim, so chances are Heroic Act will produce another strong effort.

#4 Vino Dominus (6-1), #6 Harbor Prince (10-1), and #8 Sound Cause (7-2) are other entrants we’ll emphasize.

Good luck!
